Turbans are the most dignified headgear in the whole world, I always thought.
I was sorry that Iran became too Westernized early in this century and they dropped them. I love the old pictures though. Same with Turkey and the fez, which was no good compared with a real Ottoman elaborate turban. Then the poor Turks were forced to drop even the fez...

I had seen that style of turban but didn't exactly connect it with the meanings, though I remember elders wearing it.

Well maybe in the future Afghans can combine the best of the older eras with the best of the modern one, keep the turban but have a good standard of living throughout every pocket of the country. Fish is making it one way or the other: both can exist under the right system. Islam is not backwards at all. Many good things should never be given up, like the turban. Good for Pashtuns who keep one and use it!

Of course I know Khorasan. I spell it my way!
Is this a personal idea to change the name or everyone's talking about it?!
I like it because the name is melodious and connotes the height of civilization.
I mean great works of spiritual literature, exquisite miniatures, incredible architecture, and much else. The West never produced anything remotely close to this in this department. Computers are convenient but where is real culture like that found in Khorasan at the courts of the great patrons of art and learning?

Fish, I agree with everything you have said.

My question to you how is how do we achieve that unity. What do you want us to do with the Taliban?
        Dear Jasmine,

First of all, I would like to thank you for not taking my post the wrong way and understood me perfectly well.

Secondly, I think personally the best option we have at the moment is to wait until a better leader comes out of his hiding and leads the country without the outside force. The administration in power today is very corrupt and the Taliban are taking advantage of the situation. Taliban are no better than the regime we have today. But to some point, I support Taliban as well, but not to the point to wish them to come back to power.

Many members may question my comment above after making another one earlier regarding the Taliban. I only supported the Taliban for bringing peace to the nation when many had predicated they won't be able to bring security and peace to areas they controlled. In those areas warlordism did not exist and neither did any gang or group commit crime against the innocent population. But, I would never support and never supported the Taliban's harsh law in the name of Islam. Their version of Islam is not what the Muslim world needs. Today Islam is mocked around the world in part to Taliban and now to Al Shuhab in Somalia.

Many people suffered under this regime and many are suffering under today's regime. It seems like Afghanistan has become the new Jig Saw Puzzle that no one can figure out or predict what may happen at the end. It could be either positive or negative.

Third, It may sound confusing again. I personally think the group that's fighting the war today is no longer the Taliban, but it's become a resistance fight. I no longer think it's just the Pashtuns fighting this war, but many other ethnic groups have joined the Pashtuns in the North where they are not majority. Some of these areas are Faryab, Jowzjan, Sar-i-Pul,Badakhshan, Ghor and Samangan province. In areas like Baghlan, Badghis, and Kunduz it was expected for the resistance to pick up pace as those areas have large Pashtun population.

I honestly think something positive will come out of this war at the end. Afghans have not given too many Shaheeds for nothing. Inshallah Afghans will come out victories and a new group will lead the country which will stop the discrimination of everyone and unite the country.

Just imagine the reaction of Pakistan, Iran and the Central Asian countries when they see a united Afghanistan as it was during the Zahir Shah regime when we had one of the best Military and armed forces in the region.
