Pashtun Nationalists Hatred and Animosity for Ghiljay Pashtuns
As salaamu aleikoum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
When the British empire colonized the subcontinent and tried to subdue the Afghans, the Ghiljay tribes have faught fiercely to prevent the british from gaining foothold in the region.
While Yousefzai, Afridi and Khattak tribes were partially subdued and their men were fighting alongside the British invaders, the Ghiljay repelled the charge by British army at Gandumak. Similarly, Southern Ghiljay tribes and Abdalis defeated the British at Maiwand.
The Karlani tribes of Junubi region ( Loy Paktia & Waziristan) were similarly associated with the Ghiljay tribe in their jihad against the invaders.
When the Ghiljay tribesmen rejoiced when Afghanistan was officially declared independent, they soon found out that the new king, Amanullah Khan wanted to secularize Afghanistan. While thousands and thousands of Ghiljay tribesmen died in battle to prevent the British Empire from subduing us and secularizing Afghanistan, the new king who only became king thanks to the tremendous sacrifice of the Ghiljay & Karlani tribes, wanted to do the exact same thing.
This discontent with the new king was exploited by the British to mobilize a thief, Habibullah Kalakani to start a rebellion against Amanullah Khan.
Soon, the Ghiljay tribe joined the rebellion because they were opposed to the secular regime in Kabul.
During the Russian occupation of Afghanistan, the Ghiljay tribesman, Najibullah Ahmadzai faught a fierce battle against various branches of his own Ghiljay tribe in Nangarhar, Logar, Kunar, Paktia & Khost.
Thousands of civilians died because of Russian artilery and SCUDS used by Najibullah to attack villages and homes of Ahmadzai tribesmen in Hisarak, Azra and other core areas of the Ghiljay tribe.
Because Najibullah was a communist, he felt no sympathy for human life. Neither did he have any remorse and relentlessly ordered the killings of his own tribesmen.
It is a known fact that majority of the Taliban were inititially from the Ghiljay tribe. Especially the non- Kandahari Taliban.
Mullah Omar himself is a Hotaki Ghiljay. And likewise, many prominent figures of the Taliban movement hailed from the Ghiljay tribe.
In all three of the aforementioned conflicts, the Pashtun Nationalists critisize the role of Ghiljay tribe.
In Afghanistan Ghiljay tribe is known for its conservative and orthodox image. Ghilji have always faught on the frontline against any invader.
Pashtun Nationalists disrespect the largest Pashtun tribe in Afghanistan. And their contribution to our independence and resistance against invaders.
Today, all northern regions of Afghanistan, like Takhar, Kunduz, Balkh, Baghlan and Badghis have large pockets and enclaves where the Ghiljay tribesmen dwell.
Pashtun Nationalists argue here that those regions should be surrendered to Tajik Nationalists.
