i think we;re being distracted from the main objective here

the semantics and platform, policies and procedures will comes afterwards brothers and sisters

shlombay khan has done a great initiative, and we should join with him

all of us here in the west need to come together and create a NEW WEESH ZALMYAN

Im based in Toronto. I can put together a group of 5-10 myself.

we need to put together multiple chapters, start communicating and networking, establish cadres, and then we can come together and discuss the specifics

as of right now, we need Pakhtuns who speak Pakhto and want to work for the betterment of their people. No talk of politics or Pakhtunistan, or Islamism.

    Just a cultural/social group...for now

our main objective right now should be

        - preserving pashtun culture
        - working for pashtun music and art
        - creating and supporting a charity for pashtuns, both sides
        - working on development projects...we;re in the west, we're educated, speak english, have connections...lets fundraise
        - promote education in pashto
        - launch fund raising initiatives to support pashtun literature
        - promote pan Pashtun unity and brotherhood

no talk of politics or religion. regardless of how religious we are, Islam is the faith of Pakhtana and we should never counter that

Amir al Ghaznavi, I think it's a good idea. Some other member here also once came up with a somewhat similar idea which did not receive good response here for a number of tangible and intabgible reasons.

I have seen a lot of Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Punjabi, Middle eastern, Spanish, etc groups but I am yet to see any Pashtun social/cultural group which is actively working (I don't know if they exist even). Consider the current plight of our people in KP: if we had a Pashtun society/group/party here run entirely by the young lot, we could have done a lot of fund-raising and made a difference. We can't wait until we get lar au ba Afghanistan/Pashtunistan to help our people. The young generation sitting in Afghanistan and KP could not be be blamed for their incapacities to help their people, but I do blame, including myself, for not being able to organize one single Pashtun fund-raising event. All we do is talk, talk, and more talk. What's the use of this valuable education if we can't apply it for our people? We have doctors, engineers, lawyers, scientists, businessmen, teachers, etc. Just talking for Pashtun rights and betterment on PF is not gonna help any Pashtun sitting in the KP-Afghanistan.

Shlombay initiative makes sense to me in part because he knows Pashtuns in New York and hence if he can mobilize them in a seviceable direction, then why not???

Malgariya, why? How do you suggest we struggle for our rights withour a political front or party?
In my view, Pashtuns cannot afford to be apolitical at this crucial time. Every Pashtun should endeavor to contribute in whatever way he can to the genuine political struggle of the Pashtuns.

wrora my mind is focused on 15-20 years from now

this is not a short term single focused initiative

a pashtun political party will not survive let alone thrive in law or bar in the present circumstances

that is not the correct approach in my opinion

first you unite the people and strengthen the cultural linkages

then when you have a united sense of purpose and love for oneself then we can discuss the destiny of our people

the second we come out with a political agenda, ISI/NDS/our enemies will light our azz up so quick we wont know what hit us

and we dont want to immediately turn off our brothers with a hardline political agenda, nor do we want to alienate the people with whom we live (tajikan, punjabian etc)

we need to be patient, smart and pragmatic

i agree once u make things political that will be your downfall, pashtuns lack the basics and they look way ahead of wat they are able to achieve.

We need to look for the beginning rather than the end...we need to take the first steps towards unity and understanding...rather than look to conquer the world

So Ijay Yusufzai, Dawezai, Khyaal and all the others please guide me. I can be your New York representative. I am tall and strong as well. I speak fluent romantic Kandahari Pashto.

In New York we have almost a thousand Kandahris my age but many dont care anymore for reunification. I am an exception since Khyaal and many others influenced me to become nationalistic. I will try to get the other Kandaharis to join but they are too busy having "fun".
You are tall and strong you have more chances of joining WWF or WWE whatever it is called now
We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

If I agree with you we w'd both be wrong.

Shlombay, Pashtun nationalism is the only way we can solve the multitude of problems that we face today. Remember that Pashtun nationalism is not racism as some Islamists and others want you to believe. Pashtun nationalism means the right of Pashtun people to self-rule and to be unified on their historical land free from domination by others.

I being a Pashtun nationalist would never like to discriminate against others on the basis of language, culture, religion, or race (Pashtuns are not a homogeneuos race by the way). Same is true of nationalist parties e.g., ANP and PMAP. Remember that ANP originated from Khudai Khidmatgars of Bacha Khan, who was one of the greatest humanists of 20th Century. The purpose of Khudai Khidmatgar movement was not to assert the supremacy of Pashtun race but to resist British imperialism/colonialism and to reform Pashtun society.

I also have read the PMAP manifesto very well and know that it is vehemently against all forms of racism. So it is a nefarious propaganda of Islamo-fascists and some Loy-Afghanists to associate Pashtun nationalism with racism.

I am amused to read the comments by Islamo-fascists like Sangar, Guley, Zorawar, etc. in this thread. It is like kettle calling the pot black. These Islamo-fascists who themselves( in their moral self-rightuousness) hate others as infidels/sinners (while considering themselves God's chosen people) have the audacity to call us Pashtun nationalists racists. What a dichotomy! We all know, how much does Sangar hate Shias because he himself is a Wahabi and Guley and Zorawar consider followers of religions other than Islam inferior.

We Pashtuns nationalists are not misanthrope/homophobiac like Islamo-fascists. Our aim is not to build a utopian world for some imaginary morally-supreme super-Ummah but to gain control of the small piece of land that historically belongs to Pashtuns and to use it and its resources to promote Pashtun culture and build the present and future generations of Pashtuns in harmony and peacefull co-existance with other communities/nations.

Mr. you may be very wise but it would be wrong of you if you would try to be an Aristotle. Pashtun question is basically a political question. We are suffereing not because of any personal/individual lacking or initiative but because we don't have the political power to control our own affairs.

The fundamental problem we face today is political dis-empowerment.

As for re-naming of the province as KP, you may be in the habit of measuring everything in tangible terms but the renaming has a political significance and would have implications in the future. Moreover, it comes with a whole package of autonomy to provinces. So it is wrong to downplay its importance.

shlombay! A great initiative on the PF.
If I tell you my heart, I am not satisfied with the performance of the present Pakhtun national parties in Pakhtunkhwa( Shomali& Janobi) and Afghanistan.Look in the event of the biggest catastrophe of the devastating flood in Pakhtunkhwa, all the Pakhtun leadership of Shomali and Janbi Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan have kept at bay, completeltly indifferent and least concerned. I see only some NGOs and the narrow-minded Jumaat-i- Islami outfits working.I believe in the strength and fervor of Pakhtun nationalism and consider it a befitting tool to lead a nation to soverignity and statehood. The Islamists' rhetorics on this page are afflicted with paradox. Look, one has come with a bizzar theory of "Afghan Patriotic Islamism", ( serving the Islam in an Afghan vessel ), which is but another kind of Nationalism. Pakhtuns have been doomed in the name of religion, and still the phenomenon is being used in the " Big Game" of the big powers by its stooges, advertently or inadvertently to subdue this great nation.Recently I came across a Book, named, " The Islamic Emirate Of Pakhtunistan". The writer was exploiting the Pakhtuns, urging them that they were a chosen nation, created by Allah for spreding the Devine Truth on the face of the Earth. He adds that Pakhtuns are born Muslims and staunch believers in Islam, hence Allah has selected them to establish the Islamic Emirate on their land first to extend it to the World subsequently. These people never dare to cling to Pakhtun Nationalism if their interest dictate and abuse it in their liesure.
shlombay wrora! Coming to your main point, a few disillusioned and discouraged Pakhtuns were gathered to ponder like you. They had lost faith in the Pakhtun leadership in Lar ao Bar. I also hold the same unfortunate view about this Pakhtun malady. I don't see any worth in the present Pakhtun Nationalist leaders. They are busy in the power politics at the juncture when Pakhtuns are facing the biggest challenge to their survival. May be, our Man is around in some Educational institution, or not yet born. Waitiiiiiiing! but I am optimistic, tomorrow belongs to Pakhtus!

I am really happy with the name change, but im sorry that is not an achievement. Zardari himself in one of his speeches said look i have made a separate province for gilgit-baltistan and i have given pukhtuns their name for their province. He was using that to say he has united Pakistanis by doing all of this and giving minorities their rights...But this is politics and it will not change the ground realities, of our PEOPLE SUFFERING!!!!

Pukhtuns are bleeding, pukhtuns are hungry, pukhtuns are flooded and going back in time...they are facing so many problems and none of them are being addressed. Our people voted for ANP to see change, they always are involved in politics, but what did it bring them but misery. Everybody needs to make change in their household and in their community, politics is a dirty game and a business for the rich, especially over there

@Shlombay. Malgariya be warned against the fallacy created by the word Pashtun against afghan. There is dangerous pitfall if you replaced the centuries old word afghan by pashtun. Look carefully at the context. When the People of Lar Pakhtunkhwa use the word Pashtun it is unambiguous and has clear meaning in the context of Pakistan. In afghanistan it would mean polarization and ultimately the division of afghanistan. Some here have a devious agenda of using Pashtuns of Afghanistan against their own afghan brothers as scapegoats. Beware, our foremost enemy is punjab who is responsible for the continued miseries of Pashtun/afghan nation and not anyone else.
