Most of them are poor rural people stuck in the middle of an imposed war. We have a dehumanized picture of them. But their leaders are disgusting parasites. So are "ours".

The thing here is that many people here are making a lot of money at the expense of Afghan blood: our government, warlords, Taliban leaderships, ISI/Pak generals, American corporations, the Indian Hindutva government.. war is a lucrative business.

While I do not believe the Ghani regime has any legitimacy, I have to give credit when it is due. The ceasefire offer puts the nation on a path towards a peace which has been so elusive. If not now, it definitely has paved the way for a process similar to the Peshawar talks which oversaw the full withdrawal and defeat of the Soviet Union/Russia.

I do believe that behind Ghani's offer of an unconditional ceasefire was Trump via Pompeo because Trump wants out.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

One does not place the faith of a nation on hope.
It is in vain to think of a wilderness distance from the heart.
