Wtf is "arabized" or "persianized"?Originally posted by jamakzai1221 View PostEventhough i understand what you just said, it does sounds sort of contradictory. How can afghans be unique if pashtuns have ties with pakistan, tajiks hazaras uzbeks has ties with central asia or iran? For the most part pashtuns only have ties with bordering afghan pakistan pashtuns, and the "uniqueness" of afghanistan is found in rural areas, not urban areas, where culture is either persianised or arabised. Afghanistan is only south asian because of political reason, our politicians decided to tie themselves with south asians, now we are south asians. We will always hear about pakis (punjabis) and indians, eventhough we have nothing to do with them, we are much closer to central asians then anywhere else to be honest with you. I am a tajik and pashtun, and both share culltures with central asians (after pakistani pashtuns who themselves are tied with central asia), i can tell you from personal experience. Afghanistan is a very isolated country, tajikstan can actually be seen as a continuation of afghanistan. If we were considered central asians politically, we would not hate pakis and indians wouldnt be trying to claim us, because they have nothing to back their statements.
Afghanistan is a multi racial, multi cultural country since its inception some 200 years ago. The "Persianized" parts have been "Persian" since the Achamenid days. You cant call people "Persianized" 3000 years later. Lol. The country has been Muslim for some centuries now as well. Before that the majority people in the region practised Zoroastrianism which promoted a similar way of life as the Abrahamic trilogy.
The way Afghans practise Islam is very different from other Muslim countries. This poster is indic, this why he cant differentiate between Arabized vs Muslim. Lol

I have never heard that(not that i even have any contact with rural people from Kandahar). Either you have heard lies or if there really are such pahstuns(which i doubt), then they must live very close to quetta and believe the city they live in is a part f Quetta.

Hindus are nuts. Stupid beyond repair. I dont know why Tajik, Pashtun and Afghan identities are such a big deal for these Indics. No matter our beefs, when it comes to Indics we are an united front lolOriginally posted by UnknownUser View Post

BTW let me solve this issue for good: Afghanistan is an eastern Iranian country. We have Arabic, Turkic and some Indic influences. Our languages are Farsi and Pashto. We are Sunni Hanafi. Although our country was created few centuries ago our people have been around for centuries. End of story."For thirty years, I endured much pain and strife,

Afghanistan is in South central Asia.
It's not central Asia ,It's not south Asia,It's not middle East.
It is a unique country and is nothing like it's neighbours.
It is also considered as heart of Asia.
It has been a multi ethnic country way before Europeans knew multiculturalism. It is like a garden full of different flowers.

You gonna argue again 'we are not from iran'?
P.S. Eastern Iranian has nothing to do with Iran, if you wanna argue use logical arguments...

Afghanistan and everything west of Indus in Pakistan lies on the Iranian Plateau. East of Indus is Indian plate. So geographically Afghanistan is not south asia.Originally posted by Akbar View PostIn your dreams Afghanistan is "eastern iranian".

Who named it Iranian plateau?
I'm sure it were the orientalist ,since all they knew was Persia and lumped everyone into Iranian.

I don't know who named the plateau after Iranian. But the name matches to the inhabitants of the plateau .. The majority speaks an Iranian language. Here Iranian is not Iran. Iran and Iranian/Iranic are confusing terms like Germany and Germanic.Originally posted by Akbar View PostI didn't say south Asia but south central.

By "eastern Iranian" I mean that we descend from ancient eastern Iranian people. Both, Tajiks and Pashtuns ancestors were eastern Iranian tribes: Parthians, Bactrians, Soghdians, Scythians, and so on. Iranian, Iranic and Aryan are the same things:
400 Bad Request
We are indeed an unique country. But we do share similarities with all our neighbors: Western Pakistan (Pashtuns and Baluchs), eastern Iran (Tajiks from Western provinces), Uzbekistan, Turkemenistan and Tajikistan. To a huge degree, Tajiks and Pashtuns are the same people. We just speak different languages and have different cultures, but over centuries we have developed a common set of values called "Afghanyat". Thats why in Herat, like the rest of our provinces, there is almost no difference between Tajiks and Pashtuns. The only thing that we have different is our surnames: Hamidzadeh and Hamidzai. No difference.

Afghanistan will never identify itself as South Asian. Just look at those two terms next two eachother, it just doesn't sound right. lol
what comes to mind when thinking South Asia:

no disrespect, though. lol
Only Indics are pushing hard for Afghanistan to identify itself as South Asian. Hardly anyone in Afghanistan would identify in anyway related to South Asia.
Is Afghanistan Middle Eastern? When you think of Middle East what comes to mind is = hot dry weather, deserts, flat lands, palm trees, camels, bunch of crazy Arabs, oil, etc.
Central Asian label is the most fitting even though it's associated with the Ex-soviet Stans.
South Central Asian label is unnecesary.
Afghanistan have ties to its surrounding countries though. But as a whole, I really struggle to identify as part of any region. Westerners label us ''Middle Eastern'' because they think all Muslims are Arabs and speak Arabic. Some Indics want to label it ''South Asian'' because the Hindu nationalists are wetting their pants over this ''Greater India'' nonsense. these guys really think Iranic speaking dudes were walking around in the mountains of Afghanistan half naked with dots on their heads before arrival of Islam. lol

The reason iranic or Iranian is used for all types of people by orientalist and western historians is because persia is all they knew. Also because persia had invaded and annexed lands so they consider them part of iranic people because they were subdued by Persia. The languages were also considered iranic or sub languages of Persia because it were Persian empire domain. Parts of Afghanistan was also under Persia but that doesn't make people their sub group.
Maybe you have a soft spot for Iran and the iranic term but it is a fabrication. Persia just had more technology at the time and also more media so they promoted their rhetoric.
Why not call Iranian western Afghan people?
Pakistan only exist 60 years and north western parts are contested areas and we haven't accepted it as part of Pakistan. It's Afghans that's why we share cultural similarities. With people past Indus river we don't share anything but we did have alot of influence over their culture and language.
The reason Pashtuns and Tajiks are so similar is because we have fused together by being Sunni Muslims and hanafi. Afghanyat is something also shared by other ethnicities.
Tajiks from Afghanistan actually have their language and culture preserved compared to Tajikistan. The same goes for Uzbeks turkmans etc.
