QUETTA: After seven pupils were injured and around 200 arrested in clashes between Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba and Baloch and Pashtun students at Punjab University on Monday, Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo on Friday formed a committee to resolve the issues.
The committee is headed by Provincial Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who will fly to Lahore and meet the arrested students.
The committee will meet the Punjab University and government officials to resolve the issue and take up the matter of biased action against Baloch and Pashtun students.
Bizenjo slammed the Punjab government’s discriminatory behaviour with the Baloch and Pashtun students.
“Unilateral action against Baloch and Pashtun students will only spark more hatred,” the chief minister said, urging the Punjab government and police to take strict action against all students involved in clashes.
Around 37 students – majority of them Baloch and Pashtun – were charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act. This act of the Punjab police caused an outrage on social media with many using the hashtag #Studentsnoterrorist.
Bizenjo appealed to the students to show patience and assured them that the Balochistan government would take all measures to protect the students of Balochistan.

As violence between Punjab University students and police continues for a second day, cases of terrorism have been registered against 15 named student workers and 100 unidentified students, reported Express News.
According to Express News, three cases have been lodged against the students. The petitioner in the first case was Chief Security Office Colonel (retd) Obaid. The petitioners in the other two cases are SHO Nawa Kot Khawaja Hasan and SHO Sanda Malik Taimoor.
In the FIR, 15 students are nominated by their names while 100 unidentified personnel are also mentioned. The FIR also placed charges of terrorism on the students.
Tensions continued all night at the university as incidents of violence were reported by students. Huge number of activists Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) gathered and blocked road for every kind of traffic. The students staged a sit-in and chanted slogans against police and university administration.
Further, 35 miscreants have been identified after the university’s Vice Chancellor Dr Zakaria Zakar asked department heads to find those involved in the conflict.
Students belonging to the Seraiki Council complained that three of them were picked up and tortured by IJT members. Different student groups staged a protest outside the vice chancellor’s office on Monday.
At least a dozen students were reportedly injured and several were detained by the police after a clash between two students groups at the Punjab University on Monday. The clash began in the wee hours of Monday when the IJT were preparing to host its event, the Pioneers Festival, at the Electrical Engineering Department of the university.
The IJT, Pashtun and Baloch students clashed at the venue of the event at the Electrical Engineering Department. The clash resulted in vandalism of the department and one of the rooms was also set on fire.
