Greeks conquered and defeated Afghans too. Seleucids governed Afghanistan for almost a century and then a new Greek empire heavily influenced by local Iranian culture was founded: the Greco-Bactrian kingdom. Arabs also invaded our land and ruled for almost two centuries. Several Turkic peoples have been ruling our land for almost eight centuries!! Brits imposed on us their fake boundaries, their fake nation-states,.. even the name of this region was imposed on us by Mr Elphistone.

So now you tell me: how long a foreign power has to stay so you stop considering it an invasion and accept that you have been conquered? Yeah its true that Afghans are brave and a warrior race but that doesn't meant all your hilarious nationalist BS are true. Afghan nationalists are as deluded as Pakistani nationalists. You guys are irrational AF.
You can stay in a country for centuries. If resistance never stops then you haven't conquered it. If occupying soldiers are being killed regularly then you haven't pacified the region. If invaders can't travel around without an armed escort then the region isn't under control.

Why don't Afghans speak Greek, or Arabic, or Turkish? Why do Afghans have their own distinct culture and language whic have been around for hundreds of years if not more? Why can Pashtuns exist without a centralised government? Did your ancestors not fight all the armies you have mentioned? Occupying a few cities here and there doesn't mean you have conquered a nation.

Dude, Pashtuns didnt even exist when Greeks invaded and conquered Afghanistan. Your modern identity was created in the last five centuries. Its true you don't speak Arabic or Turkish, but you follow an "Arab faith", the largest Pashtun tribe was originally Turkish (Ghilzais). There is no evidence or proof about Pashtuns fighting back the greco-bactrian empire nor the Tajiks basically because these modern peoples didn't even exist. Natives actively cooperated with the invaders and after a time they became natives. They won, imposed their culture and will on us, and after few decades they integrated into the local people.

Your problem is that you seriously believe that conquerors once defeated are kicked out by the local people. Nothing like this happened with Greeks, Arabs, Persians, Turks, etc. All of them settled and melted away among the native people ergo your nationalist bravado about "resistance" doesn't make any sense.

Since Afghanistan itself its a fake country created by Brits, I find hilarious how Afghans look down on Pakis, calling their country "British colony". Yours is the same, you just didn't realize it yet.

I don't think so buddy. Pashtuns did exist when Alexander invaded although they may have been very different to the Pashtuns as we know today. You could argue that they were the ancestors of Pashtuns. Read what Herodotus wrote about us.

All Muslims follow Islam- you cannot call it an exclusively Arab faith as Arabs didn't invent Islam- Islam comes from Allah not from sand dwelling Arabs. Yes it's true that Islam as we know it today came to the Saudis first as they were the worst people at the time. It doesn't make it an Arab faith.

There is proof that Pashtuns fought against every invader. If all the conquerors imposed their will on us then why do we have our own culture. Tribal tendencies date back thousands of years. Why don't we have any trace of Greek ways of life? Or Mongolian ways of life?

As for Ghaljyaan being Turkish-it's only a theory. There is a hell of a lot of criticism against this theory. Afghanistan is not a fake country- it was founded as we know it by Ahmad Shah baba-not by any British person.

Conquered nations usually show very strong traces of their conquerors. North African countries speak French, Indians with slightest bit of education speak fluent English albeit with a loathsome accent but they do. Same can be said about any other subjugated nations. Pashtuns have been speaking Pashto and only Pashto as their language for hundreds if not thousands of years. Do Pashtuns follow laws set by Greeks, or Turks, or the British?

Modern Pashtuns did not exist, dude. Nor did Tajiks. What is now known as "Afghanistan" was inhabited by several Iranian tribes such as Aryans, Bactrians, Soghdians, Draghnians, Arachosians and Parthians. These people were indeed our and yours ancestors and they fought bravely against Greeks. But they didn't won. They were defeated no matter how hard and for how long Bessus, Satibarzanes or Spitamenes fought the invaders. You see Abu Muslim Khorasani fought the Ummayads but instead supporting an independent Khorasanian state he backed the Arab Abbassids. Explain that dude lol

From a secular point of view, Islam is an Arabic faith. It was founded in Arabia, by an Arab man in the Arabic language. Dont get me wrong I am Muslim and proud of it but I am just trying to show you this fact: we don't follow our Zoroastrian faith anymore, which was a "native faith". Isn't that a defeat for us and a victory for the invaders? indeed it is.

Ahmad Shah Abdali founded the Durrani Kingdom. He never called himself "Kind of Afghanistan" (ask Samandri about this, he is much more reliable than me regarding Pashtun history). You seem to ignore that "nation-states" are Western creations that didn't exist in our lands before colonialism. ALL MODER NATION-STATES IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD ARE FAKE. This includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Syria, and so on.

Your language has strong traces from Persian, Urdu, Punjabi and Arabic in it. I bet there are plenty of English loanwords too. Your own alphabet is originally Arabic.

Brother every one of these invaders faced stiff resistance and none of them could claim they achieved total victory and submission. Yes mine and your ancestors lost many battles but when you look at the whole picture you will realise that this region has never been fully pacified for anyone for long.

I would still argue that Islam is not an Arabic faith-the people that carried the message happened to be Arab. Jesus (pbuh) also preached Islam - he was born in a Jewish household. Islam was not founded by an Arab man- he carried the message. It is a victory for us that we accepted- we weren't made to accept by the rule of the sword. A lot of the local population became Muslims of their own accord and even then in the mountains there was a lot of resistance. Just because alhamdulillah we don't follow the Zoroastrian faith doesn't mean we were cowed and were made to follow Islam.

As for Ahmad Shah Baba, modern Afghanistan in 1747, as we know it was founded by him-not some Victorian general. There definitely wasn't that much colonial intervention in those mountains in those days- that came later.

Pashto has strong traces of Persian yes, Urdu came about after Pashto- which means Urdu has traces of Pashto. I don't know of many Punjabi words in Pashto and yes Arabic words do feature in our language as we are Muslims- it cannot be helped. Coming on to the alphabet, pretty much every Muslim race/nation uses the Arabic alphabet, with the exception of Turks and a few other. Pashto has as compared to other languages, never really had a strong literary representation.

You got mw wrong. I didn't say Afghan people don't have balls. I have said that all this mumbo jumbo regarding Afghanistan being unconquerable is laughable. And I am right.

do you think this ''never conquered'' rhetoric was used as some kind of bait to attract soldiers/population to support/signify the war?

even then the USA is not trying to ''conquer'' Afghanistan, in the strict sense of the definition. so I don't know why this ''never conquered'' rethoric is so profoundly used in context of the US afghanistan invasion.

This "Graveyard of Empires" story in the Western world was widely spread by lefties parties who are always eager to support anyone and anything as long as it suits with their domestic agenda (anti-White, anti-straight, anti-capitalism, anti-Christianism, anti-USA, etc). Its not actually pro-war rhetoric but anti-war.

These f*ckers care about things as long as it benefits their crazy anti-system agenda. In this context, portraying Afghanistan as some sort of "graveyard for the American empire" and the Taliban as "freedom fighters" suits very well their agenda.

By definition mono-theistic religions are universal, thus Islam cannot be said to be an ethnicity specific religion, all because the messenger, was an Arab. it's the reason Islam, Christianity, spread all over the planet, where as Hinduism, Norse mythology, etc. (very ethnic specific) didn't.

Something like Norse mythology or Egyptian, or Greek mythology is perhaps ethnicity specific, as they came to be alongside those cultures. But Islam has very little ethnic-specific cultural elements. The guidlines of Islam are compatible with basic human nature and psychology. This is what made it spread to so many regions and cultures of the world, conquests had some parts, but do note half of sub saharan Africa is Muslim without an Arab army ever setting footing there. as well as some parts of Southeast Asia, which received Islam through trade as well.

Afghanistan being unconquerable is not mumbo jumbo but something invaders have to consider very seriously. Name me one nation who throughout history has resisted and held their own against superpowers of their time the way in which Afghans have done so. Yes Afghanistan is a poor country with little weapons to compete against larger more developed nations with better armies, but boy I think they've done pretty well so far. Compare that to say India- now that is a country which has been CONQUERED many times over. Part of the reason why a vast number of Indian muslims claim Afghan heritage or some other heritage.

Why does the notion that Jesus (pbuh) preached Islam make you laugh out loud?

Ahmad shah Baba founded Afghanistan as we know it. He happened to be a Durrani- the country whom he was the first monarch of isn't known as "Durranistan or Durranikhwa or Abdalistan or Abdalikhwa.

We are now in 2017. There are hardly any countries that can outright invade another country and "conquer" it like it was done years ago.

Dude, once again: Afghans are an exceptional national. Afghans are warriors and badass people. Afghans have bravely fought and defeated stronger enemies. I am not denying this facts. I am just MOCKING those Afghans who seriously believe that Afghanistan has never been conquered which is BS.

I find hilarious how you claim Jesus praised Islam. It doesnt make any sense but whatever floats your boat bro.

Durrani Empire should be considered as an Afghan "protostate" but it was not way close to the modern Afghan nation-state, which is a fake entity imposed on us by the Brits. Period.

Historically Pashtuns have been people from the mountains. You had no resources, you had no cities, you had almost nothing worth to fight and die for. Thats why most of conquerors on their way to India didn't impose on you nothing basically because it was worthless. Thats why your language is so poor: nobody really wanted to influence it because there was no need and no way to do so. Really do expect empires to settle in the mountains in order to mingle with the brave Pashtuns? Haha, doesn't make any sense, man.

It seems we're not going to ever agree Afghanistan not being conquered. If a nation fights back and if foreign troops are unsafe then it isn't conquered.

Afghans (Pashtuns) amongst other ethnicities in Afghanistan as a whole were not disarmed, didn't pay taxes and didn't acknowledge any outside power as their masters. In some parts of Afghanistan this may have happened temporarily but on the whole no invader totally achieved this. To me that encompasses not conquered.

With the whole Jesus (pbuh)-yes he was preaching Islam but the message was changed and no one understood it properly. As you know he is revered in our religion as a major prophet. If he wasn't actually preaching Islam then there is no way Muslims would believe he was a major prophet just like the others including Moses, Ibrahim, so on and so forth (pbut)

What you are saying about Pashtun areas not having anything worth fighting for doesn't make sense. Think about the number of invaders who died trying establish their rule on these mountains. In terms of financial resources there isn't much. However strategically these mountains are of exceptional importance. Which is why the invaders tried time and time again to gain control. You can't dominate and rule a country and have a wild unmanned tangle of mountains on your border. If it wasn't worth it, why have so many invaders come our way?

You can believe whatever you want but you got to provide evidences. Prove that Afghans have alway fought invaders back. Prove that Afghans existed back then.

Your opinions are biased by your Islamic faith. From a non religious point of view claiming that Jesus was preaching the Islamic doctrine is laughable.

Pashtun mountains are worthless. Just few mountain passes such as Khyber are 100% important strategically speaking basically because they are the gate for the rich Indian lands that Muslims so happily used to plunder. Other than that, ancient Pashtun lands were useless thats why almost no empire wanted to stay in there and civilize the kohistani people.

I am not denying this facts. I am just MOCKING those Afghans who seriously believe that Afghanistan has never been conquered which is BS.
Afghan land has been conquered, yes. The US just did it in our lifetime and installed a puppet government that still rules part of the country. Anyone who denies this should visit Kabul and see how they can't enter the Green Zone because it's only for the conquerors.

Afghans, however, have not been conquered. While some number of them have accepted foreign rule throughout history (particularly those in urban areas), they have resisted and rebelled against every attempt at foreign domination.

Today we see it against the US in Afghanistan, and the Punjabis in Pakistan. The urban population may have accepted being ruled by foreigners, but rural people either get left alone or fight.

Not exactly. Some of the borders of modern Afghan territory were determined by treaties between the rulers of Afghanistan, the British, and Russia (some legitimate, some forced), but aside from the loss of the area that now makes up western Pakistan, the current borders reflect a lot of what made up the core of the Durrani Empire.

Are they great borders? No, they're mostly awful, and have split both Pashtuns and Tajiks from their brothers on the other sides of the two borders (not to mention the Uzbeks), but they were not completely decided by the British, like how Pakistan was carved out of India to reward the many Punjabis who made up the majority of Britan's Indian army for being loyal slaves to the Empire (and to punish Pashtuns for resisting colonial domination).

Pashtuns control the valuable land routes between India and the rest of Asia. That's exactly why Pashtun lands have been invaded many times throughout history. Not sure where you got your history, but the conquerors of India always had to either ally with Pashtuns, or try to pacify them.

The rest of the land may not be as valuable to a would-be conqueror, but Pashtuns also historically needed to be dealt with because they'd raid passing caravans and otherwise be a nuisance to nearby cities if they weren't.

I don't know what you mean by our language being "poor." I find the language rich and capable of a great deal of expression. Are you referring to the lack of Pashto literature? If that's the case, that's more the fault of Pashtuns than anyone else. Most of us are illiterate, and the literate ones just use Farsi (and in modern times Urdu for Pakistani Pashtuns) since it's a historical lingua franca of the region with tons of literature. At least modern Pashtuns in Afghanistan are working to expand Pashto literature, though our cultural attitude to education makes that a difficult goal.

In any case, I don't see how empires conquering us or not has to do with our language.

The preaching of the Gospels is largely in conformance to Islamic doctrine. The Jesus of the Bible believed in and preached for only One God, didn't reject the laws of previous Prophets, told of a coming being to follow him, etc. The wacky Christian beliefs found in the Bible and among Christians are the work of later interpreters. Even though the Bible is not authentic, still it would not be inaccurate to claim that Biblical Jesus' teachings were largely Islamic in nature. Of course, they are not referred to explicitly as Islam, as Islam is an Arabic word, and the Bible was originally a Greek work based on the non-Arabic language of Jesus/`Isa (Alayhi Salam).

Furthermore, since everyone involved in this discussion is Muslim, I don't really see the issue with presenting Islamic beliefs matter-of-factly.

lol come on man. You could claim any land in the world is useless if you ignore its strategic features. Pashtun mountains are rugged lands that aren't easily cultivatable like most of India, sure. But historically people didn't have a choice but to deal with Pashtuns if they wanted access to the goods of India.
