KABUL: An Afghan strongman is giving sanctuary to Taliban fighters and their families who had sought haven across the border in Pakistan, building on a radical strategy to reduce Islamabad’s perceived influence on the insurgency.

I have been saying this for years: we need to create a safe zone in Afghanistan for Taliban leadership. Pakistan will aways thwart negotiation peace. Once the Paki leverage over the Taliban is gone we may engage in direct peace talks with Taliba. Or at least this move will create further dissent among the Talib rank between those willing to move back to Afghanistan and those who want to stay puppets of Pakistan. In any case its a win-win.
