Iran isn't Persian country. Iran is multinational state, which since 1925 year ruled by Persophile regime, but most of population of Iran are Turks, then Persians and then other peoples. In Iran also live Pashtuns in Gurgan province, as I know, they are Abdali.

Iran just like most of Middle Eastern/Central Asian countries is an ethnically and linguistically diverse country. So is Afghanistan. Persians make up the bulk of the population. Iran is ethnically, linguistically and culturally Persian.

      400 Bad Request

Most of Iranian Turks (Azeris) are actually Turkized Iranians. I know plenty of Azeris from Karaj, Tabriz,.. none of them has those typical mongoloid Turkic features. Thanks God most of them are turning once again to their ancestral Iranian roots. I hope one day Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan become Persians once again too.

Afghanistan unlike Iran is a country of minorities. But its definitely culturally and linguistically Persian. Thats why we today celebrate Nowruz and our lingua franca is Farsi.

No chance of Uzbekistan ever going back to its Iranian roots. Even Samarkand and Bukhara are almost fully Uzbek and the farsi is outlawed and no one can identify as non Uzbek.

Nowruz is a pan Iranian celebration not just Persian, this is why most Kurds hate Persian chauvanism. Persians are just one of the many Iranian people.

Afghanistan is not culturally persian at all, its an the Eastern Iranian heartland. Our national anthem is Pashto, bank notes are in Pashto, national poet is Khushal Khan khattak a pashtun poet. Only Tajiks and Hazaras can be classified as Persian majority population is non Persian.

Shapur Khan I don't want to start this TajikvsPashtun fighting. I didn't mean to bring Pashtun culture down. Please don't get me wrong.

I didn't say "it will become Persian" I said "I hope".. yeah no chances for Uzbekistan to become Tajik again but who knows? Iran is becoming the main regional power so this will boost Persian culture and Persian language once again. I see a bright future for my culture ahead. It will take long long time basically because Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan got some cultural and identity moral crisis.

Afghanistan is culturally and linguistically Persian. Farsi is the national language of Afghanistan. Yeah Pashto is an official language too but its a weak language after all. Thats why most of Pashtuns know Farsi but very few Tajiks bother to learn Pashto. Afghanistan is not ethnically Persian. Nor Tajiks neither Hazaras are Persians per se. Afghanistan is a country of minorities. The average Afghan living abroad doesn't even know the current national anthem (I bet even most of Pashtuns ignore it). When we have a gathering or something Afghans always play this song:

          watan ishq tu - YouTube

It sounds much better, much more beautiful, much more beautiful, than any other national anthem. This anthem in Pashto was great too

pashto song dedicated to DIEHARD PASHTUN/AFGHAN DR.NAJIB - YouTube

Its not about Tajik vs Pashtun but facts. This seems like a common dissease specially among those Khorasani types who claim everything as their own.

That may not have been your intention but saying persian this and persian that can get on people's nerves. Most Kurds I have met in the UK are proud if their Iranian roots but hate Persian chauvanism. Many farsi speakers I come across wrongly claim Pashto is descended from Persian which is not the case. Pashto is north Eastern Iranian language and Persian is South Western, they both might have descended from a common ancestor but to say Pashto is a branch of Persian or descended from Persian is factually wrong. This is one of the many examples of Persian chauvanism beside others.

Farsi although is the lingua Franca for different ethnic groups to communicate is not the national language, both languages are the official languages. There is no national language in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is not culturally Persian but Iranic. There are many pan Iranic traditions which are wrongly called "Persian". There are many cultural traditions that Afghans have which Psrsians don't.

So what? Many Pashtuns claim this land belongs to them just because Elphinstone named it wrongly after them 150 years ago. And I am not talking about those typical Pashtun chauvinist who claim that we are "Amu jumpers" or just Persianzied Pashtuns, I am talking about a fallacy widely accepted among average Pashtuns. BTW I have never claimed Pashto descends from Persian so I don't know whats your point.

National and official languages are two different things. Farsi has been the historial lingua franca of this region for centuries. Being official or not won't change this fact.

There one thing I would like to stress on: Persian does not mean Iranian. You are right that our country is Iranic but Tajik culture (mix of Islamic values, Persian, Bactrian, Turkic and Parthian heritage) has been there for centuries. When I claim that our country is culturally Persian my point is that a cultural configuration hundreds of years old can't be changed by an arriviste phenomena (no offense) like Pashto culture. Pashtuns came here few centuries ago with a tribal culture that can't match an urban culture.

I don't want to insult anyone, again. Nor I am a chauvinist. I despise nationalism basically because I find it st*pid. Yeah I despise those Persian or Tajik chauvinist too (I was one of them not many years ago) but you guys must understand what motivates them when they claim everything as their own: Tajiks claim to be the original and native people of this land so when we see Vishtaspa the king of Bactria who was the first man to accept zoroastrism that makes of proud because we consider him one of our ancestors and we don't want to share that with other people like Pashtuns no matter your Iranic heritage. Same thing goes for Surena Zardusht Spitamenes or any other preIslamic hero. We dislike cultural appropriation and with all due respect many Pashtuns tend to "steal" other people heritage. This problem needs to be addressed.

historically bactria, kabul and bamiyan were much more vibrant and important cities. arab titled bactria as the mother of cities. they were more culturally rich than their counter part in today iran like isfahan, hamdan, persepoli. why do tajik feels culturally inferier unless they be associated with the culture now falsely attached with isfahan,

not true at all, do you think that the Great khan Temujin uprooted persian civilization out of jealousy? No but because he found the static life of sedantry people as useless and taste less
pashtun people take much more pride in their own tribal and nomadic culture, and persian way of life are of no taste to us.

Aryan does not mean "white blonde german". Aryan means Iranic. We, Tajiks, Pashtuns, Kurds, Zazas, Persians, and so on, are the true and only Aryan people. Europeans are not included.

Gengis didnt uproot Persian civilization. Gengis had a smart and deliberate strategy against his enemies: those who refused his will were obliterated. Those who submitted were forgiven. Thats why Balkh, Samarqakn, Bukhara or Herat were destroyed while Neyshabur was not.

You know once Monghols defeated all their Persian, Arab, Chinese and Indian enemies and stopped with their conquest they had to rule their empire. Only then they realized how backward they were thats why they adopted local urban and sophisticated cultures and left behind their nomadic way of life. Thats what did Kublai Khan.

Most of modern Pashtuns are not nomads. Very few Kuchis remain. And believe me cultural appropriation is not about only stealing something. When some Pashtuns (not all of them of course) claim that Tajiks are not from this land or that our culture doesn't actually belong to us like you did few comments ago, that means that you consider in such a high moral ground that you can even dictate and impose on us what and how we should feel and consider ourselves. Thats intolerable.
