An influential U.S. Congressman on Friday introduced a strongly worded bill in the United States Congress to declare Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism, media reports said.
"Not only is Pakistan an untrustworthy ally, Islamabad has also aided and abetted enemies of the United States for years," said Congressman Ted Poe, who is Chair of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism.
"From harboring Osama bin Laden to its cozy relationship with the Haqqani network, there is more than enough evidence to determine whose side Pakistan is on in the War on Terror, and it's not America's. It is time we stop paying Pakistan for its betrayal and designate it for what it is: A state sponsor of terrorism," Poe said while introducing the bill, the Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Act of 2015, in Congress yesterday.
The bill requires the US President to issue a report within 90 days, answering whether Pakistan has provided support for international terrorism. Thirty days after that, the Secretary of State is required to submit a follow-up report, which says that Pakistan is a state sponsor of terrorism, or a detailed justification as to why it does not meet the legal criteria for such a designation.
It's time for a "radical reset" with Pakistan, said Congressman Poe and James Clad, a former U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defense for Asia, in an article in Nationalinterest.org dated March 8. They say the US is in "a toxic relationship" with Pakistan and needs to "to finally set limits on its indulgence" towards Islamabad.
The authors of the article are scathing about the US-Pakistan relationship. They describe it as a "weird psychology" at play.
    'Weird psychology' between US, Pak

"Pakistan has become a quasi-adversary, receiving hundreds of billions through the years in direct and indirect U.S. support+ , a strange hostage-like arrangement in which we pay Islamabad to do what it should be doing anyway to protect its own domestic security and buttress Afghan stability," Poe and Clad wrote.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah’s deputy spokesman Jawed Faisal told TOLOnews that world pressures should be mounted on Pakistan.

“No doubt Pakistan is a supporter of terrorists. World pressures should be increased on Pakistan in order to ensure peace in Afghanistan and eliminate terrorists in the region,” Faisal said.

“Now that the world has noticed that our neighboring country Pakistan should be named as state sponsor of terrorism, I think that it is not late. I believe that the efforts will have a positive impact in fighting terrorism,” MP Fawzia Kofi said.

As an American, you know I am strong supporter of US labeling Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism. It would force Pakistan to stop being a prostitute and providing those NATO supply routes.

As a Pashtun with family from Pakistan, this has been my wish for years that Pakistan be labeled as a state sponsor of terrorism. I hope Trump does it.

I met McCain years ago, and I discussed this with him- that Pakistan should be labeled as a state sponsor of terrorism, all US military aid should be stopped, and that ties should be cut.

Ferdousi, I am with you 1000% buddy!!! You are smart!!

It is very possible under Trump. He will listen to anyone that strokes his ego.

No, Pakistan and India are both the same in that they BOTH support the USNATO military intervention in Afghanistan.

Only difference between Pakistan and India, is that Pakistan gets the $$$ by providing NATO supply lines and allowing use of airspace as well as permitting drone strikes in FATA.

NATO supply lines do not come from Tehran, Beijing, or Delhi, but from chief prostitute Pakistan. The puppet regime in Kabul is made possible by Pakistani NATO supply lines too!!

If I were you I would worry about the Taliban conquering your country . 48 % of your territory is contested or under control .

The picture is more bleak than what the Obama administration and top military commanders have let on when looked at from a longer distance. According to SIGAR, the Afghan government controls or influences just 52 percent of the nation’s districts today compared to 72 percent in Nov. 2015.
