Taliban founder Mullah Omar was the real mujahid: Gen. Raziq - Khaama Press (KP) | Afghan News Agency

General Abdul Raziq has said the founder of the Taliban group Mullah Mohammad Omar was the real was the real Mujahid.
The remarks by Gen. Raziq came a day after a gathering in Kabul to mark the death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani turned controversial....He went on to say that ‘no one is allowed to label a thief to hero’ emphasizing that the real Mujahideen like Mullah Omar and the group’s slain military commander Mullah Dadullah have no properties or businesses left behind them
And in the past few days:

"I urge the Taliban to return to Afghanistan. We should make a safe zone for them and their families," Kandahar police chief Abdul Raziq told a gathering of religious scholars and tribal elders last month.
"We can no longer rely on foreign governments and embassies to end the war. The Taliban belong to this country, they are sons of this soil."
That Raziq, arguably the most powerful commander in southern Afghanistan and long one of the staunchest anti-Taliban figures, would suggest the idea amplified the shock waves it created
Flash' '-' 'Afghans' 'push' 'for' 'Taliban' ''''safe' 'zone'''' 'to' 'outflank' 'Pakistan' '-' 'France' '24

lol, this should worry the installed Kabul government's narrative pushers... since this thug was their key Talib Terminator but he's been getting antsy even before this:

“I was a young man and then thought it was a good thing,” General Raziq said as a bodyguard clutching a gun stood behind him. “But I have come to despise it. I have come to realize this can’t be done through death and blood.”
What's wrong Abdur Razeq? Are you afraid that when your soul goes that you may have to account for the kids you shot point blank in a desert solely because they were Noorzai?

Yesterday he said "lets crate a safe zone for the Taliban leadership". Today they have tried to kill him.

He is right. War can't bring peace to Afghanistan. Peace negotiation without Pakistan are the only and best way.

Influence on Taliban by pakistan is bit exaggerated... I think taliban point of view is clear they will not stop it unless the departure date for last foreign soldier is known..
What happened to this General he was the most anti-taliban commander everybody knows of?

Maybe it's a strategy to wpe out the Taliban leadership in one swoop. I hope so.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

the idea of safe zone, may work. Taliban may agree to the proposal, if international community along with the government give them assurance of not to be bombed or spied.
Also if they can make a province or two war free zone where taliban can relocate, governed by local tribal jirga system with people from taliban, independent and government. Free mobement should be allowed. And local would be tasked to police the province.

Since you are from Kandahar, is there any truth in saying most Noorzais support talibs while achakzais are pro government? Does inter tribal rivalry and struggle for power play a large role in which side the tribe supports?

Like most things its not so clear cut. Arif Noorzai for example, worked in the government and is married into Karzai's family (I think).

From what I recall some of this related to opium sells and border piracy. There are specific subsets within the Noorzai and Atsakzai that were competitive with one another. One of the famous drug runners lured here and now sitting in a NY jail is a Noorzai.

Razeq's dad was in Esmat Muslim's militia and Esmat was an Atsakzai. Esmat Muslim also committed a lot of atrocities and was heavily in tune with Moscow and eventually landed himself in a Moscow hospital with alcoholic cirrhosis... Taliban aggressively smashed his militia and the remnants and I think Razeq's dad was included in that.

Claims are hard to verify however if afghan-bios database is acceptable you will see there is plenty bad blood between the malpaswaal and Lalai Hamidzai who is also an Atsakzai. Spin Boldak border business is an extremely lucrative milk cow.

And there are plenty of Americans with blind eyes.

Despite his iron grip on the south, they are getting closer and closer to him. Look at what happened the other day. The sofa/chair blew up in the Wali's compound; either he is shrewd with risk assessments or his munz paid off.

I think Raziq is having difficulty sleeping at night, and unable to sleep.

Some people think that was an inside job and the Taliban denied that attack. Reports are saying he was the only one that escaped harm and he left the meeting in the last moments before it blew up. He is blaming the Haqqanis trying to create a rift between the Haqqanis and their Gulf supporters.

I don't know the complexities of Kandahari politics but does he get along with Shamsi and Govornor Azizi.

The politics are complicated in the sense of unpredictability of the all the players; look how malpaswal is diametric when he speaks of the late Amir.

Don't know what was his personal relationship with Abdul Ali Shamsi or Dr Azizi, but I know everyone treads carefully around malpaswal; he is reviled and admired, but without doubt feared by all.

Looks like the UAE is putting blame right where it belongs.
UAE Official Blames Afghan Govt For Kandahar Attack | TOLOnews
He said aid to Afghanistan should be delivered only through the UN as the foreign aid agencies become the scapegoat of the internal rift among the Afghan officials, who, he said, fight for the foreign aid.

Raziq had gone out of the guest house just three minutes before the bomb exploded inside the guest house. Sources close to the Taliban say that Taliban representatives from the Qatar office were scheduled to travel to the UAE on Sunday to meet officials and clarify that they had no role in the attack.

General Fasiq probably did that on purpose.
