why should FATA be merged with KP or mainstreamed ? people believe merging will bring the much needed reforms and FCR will be abolished. i say the word reform does not always reflect reforms, in case of Pakistan it sure never will. what reform is pakistan capable of other than introducing corrupt police system, corrupt failed judiciary system, higher than K2 taxes and corrupt civil bureaucracy who work on commision and rishwat. if pakistan is capable of more reform than this, then please point me in.
if you think that education and health facilities will be extended to FATA , then mainstreaming is not a pretext for these facilities. pakistan can always extend these facilities if she wish. there is no education and health facilities in most of Baluchistan district, the KP district torghar is the most backward district in whole pakistan, same is lakki marwat and hangu district.

FCR should be abolished and FATA should be given more autonomy as legally FATA is not part of pakistan. FCR give a legal cover to the crimes committed by pakistan army and government, but if there was no FCR that does not translate to no crimes by army. these are pakistan inherent problems no one can dare to ask or question army. there is no FCR in Baluchistan, but home abolishing, kidnapping and shooting baloch is normal routine. extra judical killing have occurred in KP especially in SWAT and buner too. FCR is not a point of concern.

You make some very good points here.

Question is, how would we develop FATA while keeping old laws? Merging means they get more pool of tax revenue... but it also means they pay.

In my opinion the people of FATA should take advantage of their unique situation by benefiting from all that Pakistan and even Afghanistan has to offer and still keep their autonomy and freedom intact. I think FATA should be declared a tax free zone and be exempt from any Taxes for at least the next 50 years due to all the problems they have faced. FCR should be abolished and people of FATA should be ruled by the laws they choose for themselves and have their own assembly or Jirga.

Unlike the rest of KPK and Norh Balochistan, FATA has not become mainstream yet so they can implement Pashto/English curriculum in their schools and get rid of Urdu which is good for nothing in modern world.

Some of points made here doesn't make any sense.

1. I'm pretty sure only few get free electricity in FATA considering right now in Pakistan not even those who pay bills get 24/7 electricity.
2. If you're paying direct tax in Pakistan that mean you're better off then vast majority of Pakis.
3. No one can escape indirect tax in Pakistan.
4. Nothing comes for free.

Most of Fatians move to other parts of Pakistan to search for better life, how did Karachi pathan population explode? Fatians themselves are in mainstream what ever the f that mean but FATA is under colonial FCR. Which doesn't make them free but more like slaves of political agents. State can punish many of them for crime of single individual. Thats why most of FATA young educated people want to merge with KPK or make new province.

Maliks will obviously not want to merge, not because of traditions but influence and money. Most of these Maliks sons and daughters most likely live in other parts of Pakistan. PTI is new party and want to prove it self and for that reason corruption is less among them then old parties. This will be best time for FATA to merge and see real development under PTI.

You are making it sound like FATA doesn't have any schools or other facilities. There are 6000 schools in FATA and curriculum is similar to rest of Pakistan.

PTV and Bollywood is part and parcel of Pakistan, no escaping that even in FATA. Bollywood is superior, no one deny that. Hopefully Pakistan industry will reach their standards one day.

Kidnapping is not limited to FATA. I know people who have no connections with FATA and have been kidnapped. I don't think a merger would reduce that. It's the inaccessibility of FATA which causes kidnapped persons to be taken there.
