• Ghani rejecting Pakistan’s $500m

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said Wednesday that Afghanistan wants dignified relations with its neighbors and not charity, days after he rejected Pakistan’s $500 million aid during the Heart of Asia conference.

Speaking during a campaign held for the Afghan youths, President Ghani said “Afghanistan will live with dignity and will not ask for charity from anyone.”

His remarks were apparently aimed at the rejection of $500 million in aid pledged by Pakistan for the reconstruction of Afghanistan during the Brussels summit.

President Ghani further added that Afghanistan is not facing an internal conflict but is on the frontline of an international war.

He did not elaborate further regarding the international war being waged in the country but his remarks were apparently aimed at the ‘undeclared war’ term being frequently used by him to reflect Pakistan’s support to Afghan militant groups.
However, President Ghani said Afghanistan is currently at the center point of the international community attention and vowed that the country will be rebuilt, insisting that this will go ahead ‘whether the enemy likes or not’.

President Ghani said during his speech at the 6th Heart of Asia conference on Sunday that “Despite our intense engagement with Pakistan on bilateral and multilateral basis, the undeclared war – the name that I gave to the phenomenon in the winter 2014 – not only has not abated but also intensified during 2016, with special intensity right after the Brussels Conference.”

"To burn always with this hard gemlike flame, to maintain this ecstasy, is success in life."

actually pakistan promise aid every year, but nothing is delivered physically. like a chief guest promising x thousand rupees during speech, but at the end either only deliver 10 percent or not at all and promise to send it to your bank account next morning and gone forever till today.
ahmad ghani knew this.

Pakistan was not going to give 500 million dollars to Afghanistan, it was just an empty promise. Pakistan itself is dependent on foreign aids and big portion of its budget is eaten by its army....

They always hope America to give them khairat , for example here finance minister of Pakistan is telling US legislator in 2015 that Zarb-i-Azab would cost 1.3 billion dollars Seeking assistance: Zarb-e-Azb to cost $1.3b, Dar tells US legislator - The Express Tribune

Good move. The point isn't to have an aid giver-receiver relationship; it's to resolve outstanding disputes and Ghani Sahab has made it clear that's what he wants.

Ghani is shameless, his own salary comes from invader aid. 100% of Afghan budget is foreign aid because there is no concept of paying taxes.

Firdousi, are the Tajiks in Afghanistan anti-Pakistan and pro-India? I'm taking about those with influence... not the mashooman.

Ghani started off pro pakistan, has made a u turn.

Ghani’s leap from pro-Pakistan to pro-India

Ghani had also promised to improve ties with Pakistan and his subsequent statements, after taking over as the president, also exhibited his pro-Pakistan face.
...
His last day’s speech at the Heart of Asia Conference in Amritsar seemed to have been written by the Indian External Affairs Ministry. He completely ignored Pakistan’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan and “refused” to accept Pakistan’s $500 million aid for development, instead, calling it to be used against extremists.
...
He stressed the need for evolving a joint and purposeful strategy for lasting peace in Afghanistan. Despite Ghani’s outburst, Aziz said Pakistan was ready to extend every kind of cooperation for lasting peace in Afghanistan. He reminded the participants that Pakistan had laid down the foundation of Heart of Asia Conference with the collaboration of Turkey six years ago.

Ghani conveniently forgot that Pakistan had sheltered up to 3 million Afghan refugees and still was home to 1.5 million refugees, making it the second largest refugee country in the world.
...
Former ambassador Rustam Shah Mohmand said Ghani was being misled by India. “Pakistan went to Amritsar despite India’s hostile attitude but Ghani was still speaking Modi’s language,” he said.

$500 million is for Afghan people and not Ghani personal account. This aid is to build hospitals and schools instead of direct one time transfer to one of many corrupt Afghan politicians. Poor afghans have to cross border for basic check up, they will not have to if hospitals are build in their own areas.

Ghani was good and honest initially but eventually gave up to demands of ANA who are directly sponsored by hindu extremists from India/Modi. Problem is this relation only make some individuals in Afghaistan rich and not necessarily for betterment of country overall.

Let's see how it plays out. Ghani is probably trying to secure favors from Modi. India gets the blame. If we start spiting afghans, we're doing exactly what they want us to do. So far Sartaj Aziz has been very professional. Full credit to him.

Why you Pakistanis need to bring up Modi and India into every discussion? This has nothing to do with India. When Ghani got into the office, he adopted a pro-Pakistan policy. But your government failed to deliver his promises. How do you expect us to trust Pakistan? I know Afghanistan due to the Pashtun nationalist policy has made huge mistakes but honestly Pakistan is a pain in the a*s.

I fully support Ghani. We don't need Pakistan´s money. India and Iran are better allies. 15 years ago we relied so much on Pakistan but its so good to see that today we are almost free from Pakistan interference in our country. Thats good after all Pakistan has nothing to offer us.
