Man, that happens also in the ME. I have come across so many people that believe I must be Shia just because my mother tongue is Farsi lolOriginally posted by Samandri View PostAnother common misconception that exists among Pakistanis including those of defence.pk, is that they think that Tajiks are overwhelmingly Shias
Something like that also happens in Afghanistan. Most of Afghanistan believe "Punjabi" is an ethnic group."For thirty years, I endured much pain and strife,

The Afghans, who have not spent years in Pakistan, refer to every Pakistani as "Punjabay" and call Urdu "Punjabi", in casual way........perhaps it has some thing some thing to do with trauma they received at the hands of Ranjeet Singh two hundred ago......few months ago i found an Afghan arguing with a nurse in Islamabad's hospital.....the nurse was politely telling him in Urdu to bring this and that medicine for his patient and the bearded Akhroat was rudely and noisily saying to her "pa Punjabi de na pohay gam, Pakhto che khabray kawa" ( i dont understand your Punjabi language, talk with me in Pakhto)..........i had to intervene and translated it for him but also told him to behave like civilized human being......Originally posted by Firdousi View PostMan, that happens also in the ME. The Pakistani Pashtuns who have visit Afghanistan, have told me that they are called "Punjabis" there........Last edited by Samandri; 10-31-2016, 11:39 AM.

I don't think so. The average Afghan doesn't even know about that incident.Originally posted by Samandri View PostThe Afghans, who have not spent years in Pakistan, refer to every Pakistani as "Punjabay" and call Urdu "Punjabi", in casual way........perhaps it has some thing some thing to do with trauma they received at the hands of Ranjeet Singh two hundred ago......few months ago i found an Afghan arguing with a nurse in Islamabad's hospital.....the nurse was politely telling him in Urdu to bring this and that medicine for his patient and the bearded Akhroat was rudely and noisily saying to her "pa Punjabi de na pohay gam, Pakhto che khabray kawa" ( i dont understand your Punjabi language, talk with me in Pakhto)..........i had to intervene and translated it for him but also told him to behave like civilized human being......

Most of Afghans consider Punjab and Pakistan to be the same thing. Pathans are considered as oppressed people by the Punjabi establishment. According to Afghan nationalist propaganda Pathans are eager to join Afghanistan but the evil dark skinned Punjabis don't allow them to do so lol.
No Afghan would ever call Pashtuns "Punjabi". But I must point out that recently many Afghans call to Pathans "dalkhor" because they are starting to realize that the average Pathan is not oppressed but quite happy in Pakistan. This leads to a lot of frustration and hatred specially among Afghan Pashtuns (most of non Pashtuns don't care so much aboutLoy Afghanistan)."For thirty years, I endured much pain and strife,

Beside hearsay, i have observed that the Afghan soldiers in the videos always refer to captured Pashtun Taliban from Pakistan as Punjabis....i thought they do it out of contempt but i have observed the same in the talk shows of your country , Pakistan is called Punjab and Pakistanis are called Punjabis in very normal speech and tone........Sindhis, Mohajirs, Balochs etc are also called Punjabis..... just like every ethnicty in Afghanistan is called Afghan because of the historical rule and majority of Afghan ethnicity, Punjabis are honoured by Afghans by applying the same formula....Afghans recognize that show-runners in Pakistan are Punjabis, so they think every Pakistani should be called PunjabiOriginally posted by Firdousi View PostI don't think so. There are some idiots on both sides who like to insult each other as evident by the facebook war after Torkham clash. Afghan Pashtuns are called "gilam jam" "majar" etc and Pakistani Pashtuns are called "pathan" "punjabi ghulam" etc. However most I have personally never come across such behavior. I have worked with Pakistani Pashtuns from Swat in the UK and we get on better than we do with Tajiks, Punjabis etc. My cousin has a resturant and he had delivery drivers who were Bangash and we always treated each other as brothers.Originally posted by Samandri View PostThe Pakistani Pashtuns who have visit Afghanistan, have told me that they are called "Punjabis" there........
I think mainly happens when the Pashtun on either side is too Persianized or Pakified. A Pakistani pashtun who says Pakistan zindabad or can't speak proper pashto without mixing it with urdu will be called names and an Afghan Pashtun who can't speak Pashto and is to persianized will be called names as well. It is to be expected.
Pakistan is called Punjab because from the Afghan perspective the status quo in Pakistan benifits Punjab the most. To most Afghan Pashtuns, Pakistan was created for Indic muslims, punjabis, sindhis etc. Most Afghans don't have a clue about Sindhis, kashmiris etc. To them anything east of Indus river is punjab. I think some Afghans called it Punjabistan to play with the emotions of Pakistani pashtuns and tell them that they don't really belong there. Its doen for a number of reasons.Originally posted by Samandri View PostBeside hearsay, i have observed that the Afghan soldiers in the videos always refer to captured Pashtun Taliban from Pakistan as Punjabis....i thought they do it out of contempt but i have observed the same in the talk shows of your country , Pakistan is called Punjab and Pakistanis are called Punjabis in very normal speech and tone........Sindhis, Mohajirs, Balochs etc are also called Punjabis..... just like every ethnicty in Afghanistan is called Afghan because of the historical rule and majority of Afghan ethnicity, Punjabis are honoured by Afghans by applying the same formula....Afghans recognize that show-runners in Pakistan are Punjabis, so they think every Pakistani should be called PunjabiLast edited by Shapur; 10-31-2016, 05:59 PM.

When i say Afghans of Afghanistan, i always mean those who live in Afghanistan and have not lived in western countries..............i consider Afghan diaspora in West to be entirely a different or distinct category, no offense.Originally posted by Shapur View PostI have worked with Pakistani Pashtuns from Swat in the UK and we get on better than we do with Tajiks, Punjabis etc. My cousin has a resturant and he had delivery drivers who were Bangash and we always treated each other as brothers.Last edited by Samandri; 10-31-2016, 07:37 PM.

That's probably because it is an ethnic group.Originally posted by Firdousi View PostSomething like that also happens in Afghanistan. Most of Afghanistan believe "Punjabi" is an ethnic group.

Man, thats pure Northern Alliance propaganda. They consider Taliban as a Punjabi force in order to fool Pashtuns. Believe it or not, it works. Most of non Pashtuns and even most of Pashtuns I have come across claim most of Taliban fighters are Punjabi terrorist s and not Pashtuns. They are in denial. Its f*cking hilarious lolOriginally posted by Samandri View PostBeside hearsay, i have observed that the Afghan soldiers in the videos always refer to captured Pashtun Taliban from Pakistan as Punjabis....i thought they do it out of contempt but i have observed the same in the talk shows of your country , Pakistan is called Punjab and Pakistanis are called Punjabis in very normal speech and tone........Sindhis, Mohajirs, Balochs etc are also called Punjabis..... just like every ethnicty in Afghanistan is called Afghan because of the historical rule and majority of Afghan ethnicity, Punjabis are honoured by Afghans by applying the same formula....Afghans recognize that show-runners in Pakistan are Punjabis, so they think every Pakistani should be called Punjabi
Once I came across a Pashtun girl from Kabul on Facebook. When I said to her "Taliban are Pashtuns" she completely lost her cool. I mean seriously she was crazy.
Never underestimate the power of denial, bro."For thirty years, I endured much pain and strife,

I don't know what you mean, bro. I guess by "Afghan" you mean "Pashtun Afghans". Since Mughals were Persianspeaker Sunnis, and Babur was originally from Khorasan (Turkic, but I don't care) I can't consider Mughals as "enemies" or "foreigners" or something like that. They were an amazing offshoot of Persian civilization so lets be proud of them.Originally posted by Samandri View PostPunjabi is neo-Mughal for Afghans..............

I have been banned a few times on Defence.pk as well. It was a good place 2009-2012. After that it was overrun by the mulla brigade. Both overt and covert, overwhelming religosity couched in the garb of a "defence" forum. And as a counter, it in turn got overrun by the hardcore Hindutva brigade from India. Happy times .... the Chinese and other lesser nationalities frankly never stood a chance.

I notice Pakis also come to this forum under the guise of Afghans to make racist remarks about Indians....they do the same in Indian forums under the guise of Chinese and vice versa in Chinese forums to make people fight and start animosity
This word "Indiot" is a paki invented word...btw. Just beware.
