There are 2 or 3 reasons.

1. Economics.
Most Pakistani Pashtuns usually in the KPK region have a higher socio-ecnomic status. For them being with Pakistna is a benefit for them. I meet these Pashtuns and how they are like upper-middle class.

I think this is the biggest reason why Pakistani PAshtuns want to remain Pakistani, it is usually about their social class. This is why most Pashtunistan nationalists come from FATA because they are of low social class. Same case with Swat, Swat is a class society, supper class Pashtuns will be Pakistani and Pashtunistan would only appeal to low class swat Pashtuns. Whom do the Pakistnai army and Taliban massacre in swat? Lower class Pashtuns while upper class Pashtuns go on with their lives and they don't want to talk about what happens in Swat as they will think it's anti-sialmic.



It is almost exactly the case with Abdali Pashtuns in Afghanistan. Abdalis became rich and successful and it is no surprise why so many of them became persianized. Hell, i even notice a few Ghilzais being persianized in a similar manner after squeezing out of being a low class. So the same reason why Abdalis/Durranis in Afghanistan , it's the same reason for most Pakistani PAshtuns.

Moreover, why PAshtunistan? It would be landlocked nation, therefore worse economics, why do you guys think Balochistanis are willing to give up their coast line for Pashtuns?

2. Inter-tribal hate.
As with most Pashtuns, we have had a history between hate of other Pashtun tribes, Ghilzai vs Abadli being a clear example, yet there's alot more. Mortimer durand probaby knew this fact so dividing Pashtuns between Pakistan and Afghanistan was made easy. Pashtuns have had a history of backstabbing eachother, that hatred boils in our blood between other Pashtuns, it is the reason why they will get along with Punjabis and Tajiks more than with other Pashtuns.
