While I have no respect for Ranjit Singh, I totally take your side on Abdali, even as an Afghan. I feel Abdali was an opportunist, he collaborated with a Foreign Invader, Nadir Shah Qoli to uproot and cause harm to other Pashtun tribes, namely the Hotak clan which my family derives from. We were originally Kandahari but fled Ghazni. Some say he did so out of vengeance because the Ghalji clans uprooted the Sadozais, but I don't see that as true at all since Sadozai chiefs married their sons and daughters with Hotaks and other Ghaljis even after Abdali's branch moved to Herat.

I have read many similar reports.The closest to Pashtuns are the tajik people followed by Baloch.Surprising the pashtuns are more closer to Punjabis than Persian because persian has lot of genetic influence from west asian populations including azeri,kurds and arabs.
