  • Hizb-e-Islami fighters asked to stop targeting Afghan forces

ISLAMABAD:*Days ahead of Eidul Fitr, Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan’s chief Gulbuddin Hekmatyar ordered his fighters to spare Afghan security personnel and only act against them if provoked.

“We are not in favour of fighting with Afghan security forces. We have instructed our Mujahideen to avoid attacks on Afghan forces, and respond only if they come under attack,” he said in his Eid message.

Which ones are actually targeting govt forces? The Hizbe Islami Arbakis who are armed and financed by Americans, or the ones who have joined ISIS in Nangarhar in order to fight the Taliban?

ISIS in Nangarhar are not Hezbi fighters, bulk of "ISIS" in Nangarhar is made by frontier force--send by ISI and used as pressure against Kabul.

"Many say in fact the Afghan ISIS fighters came from Pakistan and adopted the group's branding in order to get financing."

"I remember when they beheaded seven people in the bazaar, including government workers and Pakistani Taliban," Zaitoun says.

Hekmatryar instructed his followers to join ISIS to defeat Taliban. His statement appeared on various Hizbe Islami pages. Plus, many preachers and presenters on Khilafat Radio speak with a typical Laghmani and Nangarhari accent. Sure, many fighters are from other side of Durand line. However, many prominent figures within Afghan ISIS are from Laghmani, Kunar and Nangarhar.

There are are many former Taliban and Hizbe Islami figures who have joined ISIS. The organization is supported by Dr Abdullah Abdullah's assistant Muhammed Khan who is a former Hizbe Islami head of intelligence. It was revealed recently that a warlord named Bakhtyar from Nangarhar who is an enabler of ISIS frequents Muhammed Khans residence in Kabul.

In Afghanistan it is common knowledge: ISIS is a new face of what was earlier called popular uprising/Arbakis. It is a project of Kabul govt intended to weaken Talibans grip on the countryside.

The article on Hekmatyar's website, Daily Shahadat is removed. However, as quoted by dozens of Afghan and foreign sources, he did instruct his men to side with ISIS against Taliban:

He later denied the accusations AFAIK.
