US congress blocks funds for the purchase of 8 F-16s for Pakistan

F-16s sell to PakistanThe United States will no longer subsidise the sale of 8 F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan amid concerns by the lawmakers that the country is not doing enough to fight militants.
A senior official in the State Department has confirmed the report and told BBC that Pakistan would have to bear the full cost of the F-16 fighter jets if it wished to proceed.
The official speaking on the condition of anonymity further added that the Obama administration is still very much in favour of selling the fighter jets to Pakistan.
According to the official, the Obama administration believes it is in the national interest of the United States to sell the fighter jets to Pakistan.
However, the US congress refused to to approve funding for the deal days after the US lawmakers had accused Pakistan of not doing enough to fight militants and objection by India for the sell of the jets.
The decision by the US congress means that Pakistan will have to pay more than $700m (£480m) – two-and-a-half times the original cost of the fighter jets.
Pakistan would pay close to $270m, with the US foreign military financing budget paying for the rest, according to the original arrangement.

Pakistan will just buy from China or Russia. These tactics can hardly achieve anything.

They did not ban Pakistan from buying the aircrafts. They just banned the 60% discounted. Pakistan is allowed to buy them they just need to pay the full amount.

Nor Russia neither China can help Pakistan as much as USA has been doing for the last decades. And honestly American technology is far ahead of Russia and China.

            OK
I don't undrestand what is the point of blocking this discount. Are Americans trying to pressurize Pakistan about the Taliban issue or something else? I am sure if Americans wanted they could do much more but they are just playing games with everyone.

Politics is a game, Shapur jaan. We are all playing it. Except few donkeys such as Taliban and ISIS (who are mere pawns used by bigger players) the rest of the world wants to be a part of it. USA is playing his game like everyone else.

My personal opinion is this: USA is withdrawing from the Middle East and Central Asia. So they are leaving behind all their regional partners: Israel, GCC, Afghanistan, Pakistan,.. and so on. They don't need really to give expensive toys to Pakistan anymore. Basically Pakistan has lost all his importance just the day USA gave up on Afghanistan and, withdrew most of troops and just left few thousands (they don't need Pakistan anymore for logistical purposes). Pakistan played his role and now its useless. India is much better option for the American corporations and they are doing a good job by countering Chinese influence in the region. Indian lobbies have played a huge role in the cancellation of this "funding" for Pakistan.

Bad times ahead for Paksitan. They are losing all their allies. They have chosen the path of isolationism: USA, Iran, India, Afghanistan, Russia (Putin declined recently to visite Pakistan) and even GCC after the Paksitani refusal to interfere in Yemen are upset on Pakistan. Pakistanis are all alone.

The Taliban insurgency has formed ties with China, Russia, and gets military support from Iran, not just Pakistan's security establishment. I can see you do not look at this objectively.

In the other thread, you paint the Kabul regime as some winners when everyone even Ghani and Abdullah admit that they are in big trouble with the US exit. I would say the isolated party in this conflict is the Kabul regime.

Before you read the rest of what I say, know that I am opposed to Western military intervention in Afghanistan, and a huge critic of Pakistan military policy of giving the US/NATO supply routes and use of airspace to support the US war in Afghanistan.

I agree this change in US policy towards Pakistan is due to the US withdrawal, and the resulting decreased dependence on Pakistan for supply lines. It is also due to the fact that Pakistan has refused to take military action against the Afghan insurgency and the sanctuaries/safe havens however you term them.

I would not say Pakistan is isolated. I would say that Pakistan is losing it's importance to the US.

I do not believe any nation has countered China. The US is in massive debt to China, so your claim of them countering China is far fetched. China's manipulation of their currency to attract foreign investment will never stop. It is their winning card, and they are willing to pay the price of a weaker currency to gain greater share of global trade. I think a sanction free Iran could become more strategically powerful than China provided they disengage from Shia expansionist policy in Sunni regions, and invest their time in building their country. I do not see that happening anytime soon.

Lastly, if you actually want to learn something from this forum, forget the false Persian pride. It just makes everything you say sound stupid even if you might say something that sounds logically sound!

Most of the Jets in Pakistani air force are not F-16s, but Mirage. But Pakistan seems to be totally relying on F-16 for bombardment in FATA and for possible conflict with India (their own Jet JF-Thunder is a shyt chinese toy)......so its a big set back for Pakistan. Trump is promising that he will even stop annual 2 billion dollars assistance to Pakistan (half of which is of military nature).

Seems like Pakistan is putting all its eggs in the Chinese basket. Might work for them as China will be the number one economic force in the world soon.
