Pakistan celebrate Afghan refugee day and we as big hearted brothers wish them best of luck on this day. I have noticed there is lot's propaganda on how Pakistanis treat Afghani refugees. Some have been harassed by police and some other afghanis are crimnals. But majority have only good things to say about Pakistan.

“We wish we can go back to our country but the current security situation back home doesn’t allow us to return. As soon as the situation improves, we will go back to our country but the love for the people of Pakistan will always remain in our hearts,” he told Dawn at the Shalimar Cricket Ground where the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (Safron) marked the World Refugee Day.

We don't give special treatment to afghani muhajirs based on their ethnicity or tribe. In fact afghani farsis and pashtuns muhajirs in Pakistan are role model for people of Afghanistan.


Proof of afghani farsi and pashtuns love for each other in pure land. I have now started to take internet forums less seriously, people here only have hatered in their hearts.

No one can deny that Pakistani state and people have treated the refugees much better than Iran. Most of it has to do with the fact that both are largely sunni muslims and have alot in common and the fact that most of the refugees in Pakistan are Pashtuns who have gone to Pashtun areas of Pakistan.

Pakistani state itself is very corrupt and I am sure they have stolen billions of dollars of aid meant for the refugees. Contrary to popular belief among Pakistanis, it is not Pakistani state or the people who have fed the refugees but the United Nations. I am sure Pakistani state has provided some help but it is far too exagerated. I am not blaming Pakistani state for this as they are mostly corrupt and can't even provide for their own people and a third of their own population lives below povert line. So when Afghans complain about Pakistani state, I tell them the biggest victims are Pakistani people themselves and you are not singled out.

Contrary to popular belief many refugees who went to Pakistan didn't all live in refugee camps, many of them like my family and hundreds of other families I knew paid private rent and went to private school. We were given zero assistance by Pakistani state but harrased by police etc asking for money. Ofcourse I dont blame the police as they are not paid well and refugees are an easy target. The people of Pakhtunkhwa are wonderful, had some of the best time of my life there and had no problems integrating. Besides a few jokes or snide remarks we were never insulted or had bad experiences.

Pakistan needs to stop exagerating their role in hosting the refugees and trying to blackmail people emotionally whenever Afghans criticise them for their wrong policies in Afghanistan and Afghans need to stop moaning about lack of help from Pakistani state, Pakistan is not Sweden so stop comparing it to developed countries and how you were treated there.

Good post but some points are inccorect. Pakistan don't receive billions of $ but at most some dozens of millions from UN. As I said in OP for average Pakistani any afghani is same, I didn't even knew about likes of tajiks before. But I used to see lots of chinki looking Afghanis. They are not treated differently since average Paki is ignorant about Afghani ethnic groups apart from pathans.


60% of registered refugees live in KPK/Camps but we all know actual number is more then double then registered afghanis. Police harass Pakistani citizens so I don't expect better from them when it comes to muhajirs. My point was Afghanis muhajirs in Pakistan no matter where are treated with dignity for most part by average people. And not like animals in zoo as is the case in Iran.
