I was shopping at the adjacent shop when noise caught my attention.They were accusing Afghan of stealing from small boy. One of the Afridi men asked him "Kom zi ye?" (From where are you?). He said 'Afghanistan'. The moment he said that, the Afridi slapped him so hard that it echoed...he said "you come here and do this with our mashooman, how dare you". The Afghan's face became red, but pleaded his innocence politely. When Afridi men left after issuing stern warnings, then Afghan started calling names to him in their absence. The point is, Afghan is weak, helpless in Pakistan.

Where were the so called Pashtunwali. It is easy to prey on the weak, when one is in position of power. Nor was the so called Pashtunwali apparently available, when the army marched in north Waziristan. Where millions fled their homes and many women died from exhaustion from the long distance walk. Apparently the Pakistani Pashtunwali at that time was in standby. The Pakistani Pashtunwali apparently only shines when messing with a refugee.

Now that I think about it. I didn't see you're so called Pashtunwali when Pakistanis all over Pakistan celebrated the deaths in tribal regions after the so called military operation against them. Why are so many Pakistani Pashtuns proud Pakistanis rather than Pashtun first? I know there are many Pashtun nationalists that feel otherwise, but why is the majority like this? It does not make sense to be because they are treated like second class citizens in Pakistan and are dominated by Pakistani Punjabis in the political, military, and economic sphere. Shouldn't they hate Pakistan and want to ally with Afghan Pashtuns rather than Pakistani Punjabis?

When some one lives a life in Refugee camps, detached from his native village and roots, then he loses lot of things, from clannish attachments to Pashtunwali beside customs, traditions, folklore, literature, family history etc.......the customary laws are infused in those who are part of Pashtun society of a stable village. When you live in tents in a refugee status , there are other pressing matters like filling the stomach some how, and there is no home-village environment which provides the base to a Pashtun.
