  • Taliban does not want ‘a share of the power’

As the US and China continue to push for Afghan peace negotiations, the Taliban maintains that it wants no part in sharing power with the existing Afghan government. In a statement released on its official website, Voice of Jihad, that mocked US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter’s recent statement that “the Taliban’s existence in Afghanistan was only a temporary phenomenon,” the group concluded with the following [emphasis mine]:
The Islamic Emirate has not readily embraced this death and destruction for the sake of some silly ministerial posts or a share of the power. On the contrary they epitomize the nation’s hopes and aspirations for a just and peaceful government that will strive to build our beloved nation on the basis of Islamic law, social justice and national interests.
The people of Afghanistan readily sacrifice their sons to achieve this objective. And the Emirate – as the true representative of our people – will not end its peaceful and armed endeavors until we have achieved this hope of Afghanistan.
“This objective” mentioned in the above quote is the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Taliban’s official name of its government. The Taliban has insisted from the very beginning that it will settle for nothing less than regaining full power. In its most recent statement, the Taliban discusses the Vietcong and its protracted fight and ultimate victory in outlasting the US in Vietnam:
Has Ashton Carter forgotten that the Americans made similar statements about the Vietcong during the Vietnam War and yet – some forty years later – the Vietcong (or its successors) are very much alive and in control of their country?
The Taliban continue to deftly manipulate Western leaders’ desire for a negotiated settlement in Afghanistan in order to extract concessions. But the Taliban will not denounce al Qaeda, and will not settle for anything less than a full return to power.

"The Islamic Emirate has not readily embraced this death and destruction for the sake of some silly ministerial posts or a share of the power," the Taliban stated.

Seems like the current negotiations are not going to work and the war will keep going on with each side supporting its proxies.

Taliban recruit people to fight the current government because it is perceived as illegitimate, oppressive, corrupt and therefore un-Islamic.

They have successfully carried out an armed opposition for 14 years by convincing millions of Afghans that they are not fighting for the sake of power and wealth like the Jihadis of the 80's who now occupy Kabul.

If the Taliban accept to share power and join the regime, most of their own followers will abandon the and continue the armed opposition.

The regime, the Taliban and the international community must take away incentives from people who are willing to fight and kill.

As long as the government is corrupt and as long as it oppresses people, there will be armed opposition.

People in Afghanistan want to live just like people in any other place in the world. They don't want to see foreign troops in their country oppressing them. They don't want a corrupt government stealing their land and wealth. They don't want a corrupt judiciary and law enforcement.

Negotiations should be about the reasons why people oppose the regime and why they rather die fighting against it than joining it.

So whats then the reason to even attend those negotiations? Do taliban really think that USA after 14 years, countless death and billions spend on their side will just hand over the whole country to them?

I know the current goverment is corrpt, I hoped Ghani would make a chnage, but he is incompetent. Even more than Karzai. But how will taliban bring a beter goverment who will not opress people? Or steal their land and wealth. Are they again going to pray to Allah to make everything better?
During their 6 years rule they did not make Afghanistan any better. And for stupid kids who grew up in the west and belive in the fairy tales of stability and security are just retarded. Their was no such thing as stability or security. In the north their was insurgents also in the east there was big lawleness. Afghanistan was so unsafe that girls were foced to stay at home for the whole 6 years, becuase otherwise they could get kidnaped and raped.
Actually that was the bigest reason why girls were not allowed to go to school. Not just becuase taliban were against girls education. So tell me again how is that safe? You all belive in those mindless propaganda of talibs without even questioning it. Its like saying that live in North Korea is wonderfull. I guess its good if you belive in the state propaganda.

The bigest victims here are again the ordinairy Afghans who again have to choose between cancer or maleria. And taliban here is the cancer.
