  • Reports: Taliban Supreme Leader running businesses under fake names and owns a house

American daily newspaper the New York Times has published a report indicating that the Supreme Leader of Taliban Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour is a businessman and running businesses in Dubai.
The report cites a person that knows Mullah Mansour as saying that the Taliban leader owns a cellphone company.
The news agency cites some intelligence officials as saying that Mullah Mansour is wealthy by any standard, partly because of his ties to Ishaqzai narcotics traffickers.
One Afghan intelligence official has said that some of the wealth of Mullah Mansour has been frozen by Pakistani officials.
One such time came this year when Pakistan was seeking to broker a round of talks between the Taliban leadership and the Afghan government and wanted Mullah Mansour to go along with it, the official said.
According the NYT, some of the time, he lives in a southern neighborhood of Quetta, Pakistan, known as Satellite Town, in an enclave where he and some other Taliban leaders from the same Pashtun tribe, the Ishaqzai, have built homes, according to interviews with a range of people who know him, including high-ranking Taliban leaders.
The NYT report further states that many of the people interviewed about Mullah Mansour, they spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid offending or prompting revenge.
The report reveals that Quetta is not his only option. Although he is on the United Nations no-fly list, Mullah Mansour has repeatedly taken flights in and out of Pakistan, according to a senior Afghan intelligence official. Often, his destination has been Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, where he has a house and several investments under different names, the official said.
Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour took over as the Supreme Leader of Taliban after Mullah Mohammad Mansour was confirmed dead lately.
According to the New York Times, some members of the Taliban regime are surprised of what Mullah Mansour is today.
NYT quotes Mullah Salaam Alizai, who according to the news agency was close to Mullah Omar during the Taliban government in the 1990s and later spent years as an insurgent commander and then joined government, as saying that Mullah Mansour is unpredictable and an opportunist.
“The kind of person who doesn’t have his own ideology, the kind of person who doesn’t care about how much destruction occurs,” he is quoted as saying in a phone interview.
“If he is told to destroy one road, he will destroy 10, if he is told to kill one person, he will kill 100,” added Mullah Alizai, who reconciled with the government about eight years ago.
NYT has quoted another official of Taliban regime as saying that Mullah Akhtar was a hard-working administrator and that he was not a fundamentalist.
“Mullah Mansour was not a notorious figure and he was not fundamentalist, either,” Maulawi Qalamuddin, who is now on the Afghan government’s peace commission is quoted by the news agency as saying.

He seems like a great leader, a self made man, a businessman. That makes him perfectly suitable for leadership.

Self-made made businessman? Tell us about him. Where has he amassed the wealth from? Where did he get the necessary capital to buy real estate and invest in Dubai/UAE?

Perhaps a drug trafficker? .. and good ISI puppet?

Do you have any evidence to prove that he made his money by trafficing drugs?

Selling drugs is a crime. Accusing someone of a crime requires evidence. I dont deny the fact that some Taliban are involved in drug trade. I have heard this from very reliable sources.

However, if you are going to accuse a specific person, in this case, mullah mansour, then I expect to see some sort of credible evidence. Otherwise it is difficult for me to believe that you are telling the truth.

yeah?? ever heard of identity fraud??

we will put aside the fact that he is a leading suspect that is in charge of leading a terrorist group that is in war not only with an entire country but the rest of the planet earth..??

you don't need to know everything about a person to figure out what sort of a human being they are. you just figure the basics and the rest falls right in to frame. a person who is dishonest about the basic things in life is not going to bother with honesty when it comes to the bigger picture.

Dzj, i treat every other matter seperately. As the leader of Taliban he can be held accountable for certain things. But there are other matters for which we haven't seen any evidence.

separate matters can be concentrated on when they occur on separate planets. otherwise, they are all connected. most definitely when it involves criminals.

you are accused of stealing one day and found wearing a mask in someone's backyard the next day. when you are asked about what your intentions are, you don't go around claiming to be "just catching some fresh air". only an idiot would believe something like that and i am sure that you are not an idiot.

you know shamlawar, i have been taking some basic psychology classes in college recently and alot of things are starting to make sense. if you are really bored in life or in the process of punishing someone, try engaging yourself in activities that build on your character and life experiences. there are many ways of punishing people without hurting yourself. you don't get **** from shielding yourself behind a blind dedication towards defending terrorists.

I am glad to see that you are doing something useful. Continue taking those classes. Some day when you graduate, then you might be able to do something positive in life. Keep up the good work.

Ignorant Islamist logic is like this:

Secular person: get sentenced to jail in saudi Arabia just becuase he criticised the current goverment and did not even insult Islam.

Islamists: He deserves this, he is a extreme secularist and probably atheist and hates Islam, he need to be killed, becuase he is probably a spy of the west, who send him to destroy Islam and corrupt muslims.

"Meanwhile Islamic exremist, aka the taliban leader, is involved in criminal activities, ploting terror atacks and publicaly declares war against goverment and now is acused of drug traficking".

Islamists: How do you know this? where is the proof?, I accept nothing without any proof. And continues with spreading hatefull propoganda and covers himself in ignorance.

Don't make me regret being nice to you. Now let's get back to why you think it's okay for a criminal to be opening businesses and owning properties under a false identity in a country other than where he is claiming to be putting his life at stake for the future of afghans.

I didn't know it was okay for someone who is training other people's children in caves and tents to be fighting a holy war while having mansions in Dubai. Here I was, thinking he loved Afghanistan so much that his love for that soil compelled him in to making irrational decisions that cost his people their lives and entire villages. Turns out he is a very successful business man.

Afghans should beg to feed their children, afghan kids should gather garbage from the streets of Pakistan and Iran but while he gets to livr with his family in a mansion in Dubai..

Maybe you are not an idiot after all. You live in Europe, that other moron lives in USA and your hero lives in Dubai. You all join together and preach afghans on how they should be fighting the kufaar from their tents in Afghanistan. You can live as you please but anyone else even bothering with a tie to work for the betterment of that country is a traitor.

Your reasoning is based on certain assumptions. You assume that it is wrong to own a business on someone else's name.

I would say that I agree in principle. However, I would say that if I was unable to invest in a business with my own name for political reasons, then I wouldn't feel uncomfortable investing in somebody else's name as long as the business is legit.

I don't agree with Talibans chosen method of conducting their politics and policies. But I would rather see a Talib having a business on the side making some money than being a idiot who lives off donations and hand outs. An economically stable and independent person is much more likely to have a free mind and make decisions based on his own reasoning.

I can't say the same about those who don't know anything other than being a mullah and a fighter. They can't make decisions like a businessman and they might be easily corrupted if they feel the pressure of poverty.

really?? how about being more dedicated to cleaning your name before owning a secret business in a country other where you claim to be living??

why do you think all talib supporters in afghanistan are poor mullahs who have no other means of earning their income?? it's their blood, sweat and poverty that people like mullah mansoor are building mansions and businesses in dubai on.

you see it, you understand it but you don't speak it. because you are a coward.
