  • Green Beret (USA) discharged for beating Afghan (police commander) child rapist (CNN)

(CNN)Sergeant 1st Class Charles Martland, the Green Beret being separated involuntarily from the U.S. Army for kicking and body slamming an Afghan police commander he describes as a "brutal child rapist," began telling his side of the story Monday.

Martland is under a gag order imposed by the Pentagon, but at the request of Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif, he wrote a statement detailing his actions on Sept. 6, 2011, which was obtained by CNN.

"Kicking me out of the army is morally wrong and the entire country knows it," Martland writes. Last week the Army rejected his appeal.
Martland and former Captain Daniel Quinn were disciplined by the Army after they beat a powerful local police official who they concluded had been raping a small boy. They say they had been encouraged by higher-ups that there was nothing to do about such horrific acts, that these were Afghan problems for the Afghan authorities to work out.
But the Afghan authorities wouldn't do anything about it, the two soldiers say.

"Our ALP (Afghan Local Police) were committing atrocities and we were quickly losing the support of the local populace," Martland writes in his statement. "The severity of the rapes and the lack of action by the Afghan Government caused many of the locals to view our ALP as worse than the Taliban."

Quinn and Martland were told by a young Afghan boy and his mother, through an Afghan interpreter, that the boy had been tied to a post at the home of Afghan Local Police commander Abdul Rahman and raped repeatedly for up to two weeks. When his mother tried to stop the attacks, they told the soldiers, Rahman's brother beat her. Quinn says he verified the story with other ALP commanders from neighboring villages. Then they invited Rahman to the camp.

"After the child rapist laughed it off and referenced that it was only a boy, Captain Quinn picked him up and threw him," Martland writes. Martland then proceeded to "body slam him multiple times," kick him in the rib cage, and put his foot on his neck. "I continued to body slam him and throw him for fifty meters until he was outside the camp," Martland writes. "He was never knocked out, and he ran away from our camp." The incident lasted no more than five minutes, he says.

Quinn told CNN's "The Lead" last week "We basically had to make sure that he fully understood that if he ever went near that boy or his mother again, there was going to be hell to pay."

"While I understand that a military lawyer can say that I was legally wrong, we felt a moral obligation to act," Martland writes.
Quinn told CNN that they took the action they took because otherwise nothing would be done by the Army or local authorities. "The reason we weren't able to step in with these local rape cases was we didn't want to undermine the authority of the local government," he said. "We were trying to build up the local government. Us acting after the local government fails to can certainly undermine their credibility."

The Pentagon denies that telling soldiers to look the other way is official practice.

"We have never had a policy in place that directs any military member, or any government personnel overseas to ignore human rights abuses," Defense spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said. "Any sexual abuse, no matter who the alleged perpetrator and no matter who the victim, is completely unacceptable and reprehensible."

Most people who support ANA, ALP and ANP dont mind them raping little boys. As long as they protect their interests and the corrupt regime in Kabul, they are willing to condone rape of children. This is the human rights and liberal values these people cherish so much.

Something has to be done about this afghani rape culture. If afghanis will not fix themselves then Pakistanis will have to intervene to exterminate this fitnah.

This is the inaccurate statement. The defense minister Bismillah Khan was caught in dancing boy party on video which is child abuse (human rights abuse) and he was still defense minister on the US pay roll and what about that Kandahari contractor who was torturing people on video with US special forces present on video:

        Here is the video:

panjab is the only place with rape culture:
Up to 280 girls and boys said to have been filmed being abused in one village, but victims’ parents say police did not act until there was a national uproar

There are even books written about it:
One of America’s most astute and engaging political analysts, Michael Parenti shows us that culture is a changing process and the product of a dynamic interplay between a wide range of social and political interests. Drawing from cultures around the world, Parenti shows that beliefs and practices are readily subjected to political manipulation, and that many parts of culture are being commodified, separated from their group or communal origins, to be packaged and sold to those who can pay for them. Folk culture is giving way to a corporate market culture. Art, science, medicine, and psychiatry can be used as instruments of cultural control, and even marriage, the "foundation of society," has been misused by heterosexuals across the centuries.Using vivid examples and riveting arguments throughout, ranging from the everyday to the esoteric, and penned with eloquence and irony, The Culture Struggle presents a collection of snapshots of our time.

There is difference my afghani friend, culture mean people get away with it in the name of culture because they consider it honourable and cultural practice. Otherwise people get punished as is the case with the link you posted from Pakistan.

Kasur incident rings the bell?. Or that Javed Iqbal of Lahore who raped and killed more than 100 kids.

I condemn Wairrkey Bazi prevalent in North-Western Pakistan and Afghanistan, its a sin for which qaum-lot was destroyed. But as far as rapes of kids (both little boys and girls) are concerned, Punjab is number one in the number of cases. Not only those Kids are raped in Punjab, but they are killed afterwards, in most of cases, to hide the crime.

Pashtuns should eliminate Worrkay-bazi culture from their society while Punjabis should get rid of rape culture from their society.

its ring a bell because rapists are jail right now. Its not like in Afghanistan where army and police are involved in rapes so one can imagine average afghani. And give me a break in number 1, whole world know afghanis are number 1 in rapes maybe after India. To top it they consider it part of honour code, keeping kids to rape is considered sign of menhood. So chances of anyone coming out to report or punish rapists is next to zero.

These afghanis have convinced rest of the world that rapes are perfectly normal in Afghanistan and no one should tell them otherwise including USA soldiers.

If afghanis don't get rid of this fitnah then Pakistanis will have to exterminate them in the name of Islam, they better hurry up.

I know you don't want me to remind you off your bachpan and past of being bacha of some ANA soldier. But your mental problems will not go away till you accept what they did was wrong and not honourable. Stop making excuses for rapists in the name of afghan culture.

I am speaking for every Pakistani when I say this unless afghanis don't change themselves in next 10 years then Pakistan will have to exterminate them with Nukes just like allah destroyed qoum lot.

Lol. Yea they (and we) should. Qaum-i-lot practice should be eliminated.

Good to see that you are so high spirited in cleansing sins and sinners. What about the raid on hera mundi in the heart of Punjab?, there is also a branch of Hera mundi in Multan judging from 'that' documentary. Zina and prostitution exists in every part of muslim world but this open business of red light districts in Punjab is unique thing for a muslim society.

Tilla jogian, If rapists were so readily punished in Punjab, there should have been no rape epidemic there. Rapists get away with it, weak and poor suffers there due to lack of justice.

Hera mandi is dead and buried, its just a name. These ada exist in every society. But you are comparing them with rapes, and that to rapes of little kids in the name of culture is unique in entire world.

Afghanis have convinced goras that raping kids is part of their culture, this sin is not acceptable to Pakistanis. Being muslims its our duty to get rid of this fitnah. Next they will convince the world that raping kids is part of Islam.
