It is not just the Paki girls here who are cussing, foaming at their mouths, or even threaten and those back home that uses violence...in my opinion the main problem it is the idea that nothing is wrong in our interpretation of Islam…when a Muslims girl in heart of Kabul question obscurantist idea and she is murdered by locals some cheers and some blame west. The fact is as long as obscurantist ideas are fostered and we are not ready to have a broader dialogue on Islam and the Muslim traditions and practices we are morally and spiritually supporting the extremist.
The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one….However, the situation is much worse, dire and widespread that no one is welling to question it—without being labeled as “Kafir” as they did to Farkhunda. I see all the groups listed below as the problem:
1. The apologists of the Taliban like groups that never condemn the evil actions of these groups or worst try to justify these evils..ex suicide bombing kills 80 innocent civilian Muslims Afghans---“so what this is the war impose by west. They are fighting western.”
2. People who are sold to the idea that all this is leading to the spread of Islam.
3. People who are thinking and practicing strict interpretations of Quran.
4. People who are averse to Ijthehad and Tajweed in Islam.
5. People who are intolerant to others views on Islam…Shia deserve to killed because they are Mushriks.
6. People who are trying to mix Islam with politics.
7. People who are fatalistic and believe that Allah will save the Muslims and we do not need to worry about it.
Some gang of thugs is the worst manifestation of items I have mentioned above. The problem in Afghanistan is…that very few will accept the reality....and the fact is that the majority are in a state of denial. The newspapers and the radio and TV networks are generally following this path. The Afghan intellectuals I come across think the following: -
1. The Taliban are mainly foreigners; they are not Muslims.
2. There are very few of these mercenaries; all trained by Pakis and CIA to destroy Islam.
3. We are on the path of democracy and democracy will in the long run get rid of extremism.
4. The Afghans come out of every calamity; they are very resilient; no one can destroy Afghanistan.
5. Mossad and CIA are conspiring against us; Pakis are their dog and Iranians are also against us.
The whole Nation is daydreaming and is hostage to their erroneous beliefs, misconceptions and false hopes. Unfortunately, there is very little hope for the Nation till they completely overhaul their thinking. The fact is the extremist Islam is a subset of the whole Islam. Now it shares core values that are necessary to sustain it that are not challenged by the majority. Like killings in the name of blasphemy…the justification of killing of infidels, or suicide bombing that mostly results in killing of Muslims. This is a fundamental flaw in our ability to tackle life and death situations confronting our nation as a whole and Muslim world in general and as individuals we have no chance.
