  • NDS: Gathering mourning Mullah Omar a legitimate target

Oh yeah a legitimate target? Even if 3000 people attends the funeral, such as they did in Ghazni? This statement I find troubling and in contradiction with the aspiration of majority of the people of Afghanistan which wants peace and reconciliation.

First of all, if one assumes that Mullah Omar was alive then the Afghan government would be still pleading to make peace with him and solemnly thanking him as the president did in eid.

This is like the British Army targeting Republican crowd mourning a Sinn Fein or IRA leader back in 70s at the peak of IRA terror attacks.

The NDS is over-reacting and making itself look stupid, I doubt president Ghani has been consulted on this otherwise I am sure a more precise statement would have been released if he would have thought one needed to be released.

Well, some time I myself react in heat of the moment and rightly so especially when an act of terror is committed by Taliban and people are killed. But one must be honest, this conflict has its chronology and dynamics that the Afghan government, the NDS and internationally community has not overcome. NDS should be cognizant of the fact that what and the reason that led to the rise of Taliban were bachbazi, rapes, killing and ethnic chavunism perpetuated by the known killers the NDS is probably referring to them as excellencies and what not. Give us a break jack ass who has churned the below nonsense.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Banning all mourning ceremonies for deceased Taliban leader Mullah Omar, the spy agency on Monday warned that any gatherings condoling his death would be a “legitimate target” for Afghan forces.

The announcement comes hours after Afghan forces targeted a funeral ceremony in absentia for Omar in the Qarah Bagh district of southern Ghazni province, five kilometers from Ghazni City, the provincial capital.

“Mullah Omar was the biggest cause of war and backwardness in the modern history of Afghanistan,” the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement.

It said Mullah Omar was responsible for the killing of thousands of Afghans and any commemoration or mourning ceremonies for him were an insult to the thousands of martyrs of the nation.

It said all security and defence forces had been directed that such rallies were “a legitimate military target.” The statement urged local residents not to participate in such sessions.

The statement claimed Mullah Omar had been mysteriously killed in April 2013 in a hospital in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi.

Also on Monday, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Seddiqi told a press conference that a handful of individuals who had the blood of Afghans on their hands took part in memorial ceremonies for Mullah Omar.

Without going into details, he said the people knew the individuals who participated in the commemoration sessions.

Two days ago, the High Peace Council acting head Abdul Hakim Mujahid and some Harkat-i-Inqilabi Islami Party members attended a memorial service for Mullah Omar in Kabul

What are your thoughts on why the statement was done the way it was? It seems that there was some attempt on scuttle the boat of peace talks. I have been thinking about who decided on this strategy. I could only come up the fact that someone in NDS or the government decided that with this information in hand, negotiations could be glossed over and a gamble could be made.

Once it was Abdul Haq that said "The Taliban is a like a Crystal Ball, you hit it the right way and it shatters into many shards."

I assume the gamble was - go for broke... why negotiate when you can take the steam all out of the enemy and throw them off kilter.

What I wonder though is that if they, or Abdul Haq ever thought about the other side of what that statement means - shards are sharp and if scattered every which way can bloody the feet!

The NDS is overplaying its hand. It's greatest victory since its inception is to confirm a Paki intel confirmation that Omar is dead and delay or even destroy the chance of peace talks. Taking a page out of the Karzai book of stupidity.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

I am not too sure about scuttling the entire boat of peace, but maybe more in the lines of the crystal ball expression.

I cant' think of why the NDS would come up with this crap. Maybe the spokesperson was too excited.

Any fall out within the Taliban will only get the Taliban weaker in my honest opinion. But I just hope everyone is sincere and work towards peace that is in Afghanistan's genuine interest. Remember there are chaghalan whose interest are not served in peace, and they **** it from Taliban.

I think one way or the other the Pakis might have been caught by a surprise even if they were consulted prior to announcement of Mullah Omar's death bu the Afghan government. I can't seem to figure out why the Pakis would do that and how it would serve them.
