Afghanistan's saffron has been named as the world's best saffron for the third year. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and international donors have been supporting the Afghan government with money and technical assistance in a bid to eradicate opium production. Saffron is not only a legitimate crop but also a very lucrative business, which has strong potential to replace poppy cultivation in Afghanistan. The price of Saffron ranges between $15 a gram to $1,500 a pound, which is an ample amount of money for farmers to replace poppy with Saffron cultivation.
