  • zahid hamid, nationalist paki behind bars in Saudi Arabia

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Prominent hardline commentator and self-styled ‘Defense Analyst’ Zaid Hamid has been sentenced for eight years and 1,200 lashes for criticizing Saudi government, according to circles close to Mr. Hamid and in touch with recent developments in his case.

After being reported by several Pakistani websites, the news spread like wild fire on Pakistani social media stirring a highly charged debate between his zealous supporters and foes .

However, a confirmation from Pakistani embassy in Riydah couldn’t been received.

Earlier, Hamid was arrested during a private visit to the Kingdom with his wife. He was apparently taken into custody after making speeches against the Saudi government.

“Our embassy in Riyadh has informed us that Mr Zaid Hamid was arrested about two weeks ago. Since then, the embassy has been working with the local authorities to get consular access,” Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah told a news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

“Due to the efforts of the embassy, his wife was able to talk to him. Again, due to the efforts of the embassy, his wife will be able to meet with him on 30 June,” he said without giving further details.

In 2013, a former aide who left Hamid’s organisation accused him of being on the payrolls of the Inter-Services Intelligence agency to wage psychological operations against those opposed to the Pakistani security establishment.

Zaid Hamid is a comical character. However, to brush everything he says as nonsense is not accurate. Also one has to separate the reasons for why people find him objectionable. Secular extremists (Kabul regime supporters) find him objectionable because he explains quite clearly why the NATO war/military intervention (they support) in Afghanistan failed to quell the insurgency. Other people, mostly journalists and the educated, find him questionable because he completely glosses over facts of Pakistan's role in supporting that NATO war with NATO supply routes but criticizes this war, yet champions the Pakistani army. I mean in the same breath he states Pakistan was opposed to this war but acknowledged that Pakistan gave NATO supply routes! Facts contradict what he states.

For some reason, the secular extremists tend to be the stupid ones because its almost like they credit the Afghan defeat of the Soviets to the likes of Zaid Hamid, pretending that Afghans, and Pashtuns specifically were supporters of the Soviets and were naturally ok with foreign presence if if was not for the likes of Pakistanis like Zaid Hamid telling them they had to oppose it. I mean these people are the biggest retards on here.

saudi deal with them like this from the beginning. to be fair Saudi have zero tolerance for anything which goes against their way. they are very hyper and nervous due to middle east crisis. but they are going to lose in the long run. there is a Chinese proverb 'best fighter never get angry' now look how relax persian are playing.

secular extremist is not a fair word here, you can say ANP wala secular. dear things are not that much simple. Pashtun Nationalist have a very good reason to support USSR backed Afghan government especially Najeeb, you can't just solve the whole Circus without considering the pakistan equation, Pashtunistan movement, and Pashtun Nationalist hard stance and traditional way of going against central policies. i am not in a position to discuss, it's a going repetitive and very boring. but you just can't ignore the only political force and their interest of Lar pashtun in that era. they do not credit the Afghan defeat of the Soviets to the likes of Zaid Hamid, they credit it to America. they just blame the likes of Zaid Hamid for Afghan civil war. now you are not that much stupid obviously you know who rejected the Geneva convention, who planned and were coordinating the Jalalabad siege, who come up with the idea of Gulbaden and the list goes on.

You Afghans insult Pakistanis on living on donations, yet your people live on the donations of people that are receiving donations.

How that makes sense? Afghan logic.
