  • Women’s Sharp Rise in the Medical Field

Since 2005 there have been significant improvements in economic, health, education, security and reconstruction sectors bringing more Afghans back into economic and civic life. U.S. AID, in cooperation with the Afghan government, has developed programs to train midwifery in 32 provinces to improve the health condition of mothers and their children. In a country like Afghanistan where women, especially in remote areas, can not really access medical facilities because they lack female health workers, a midwife can save a woman's life.
The percentage of women giving birth in health care facilities has increased from 19 percent in 2005 to 32.4 percent in 2011. A midwife is not only saving women and children's lives; she is also supporting her family economically and contributing to a more equal Afghanistan.
In your opinion, how important is the presence of midwife to provide competent, skilled care to women during childbirth?

    Very respectfully,
