  • ISI wants 170 passports for Afghan taliban

The former Afghan top spy says the head of Pakistan's powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, made a surprising demand during his talk with Afghan officials on May 6.
He asked the Afghan government to provide 170 passports to Taliban leaders.

You guys don't get it do you? Every Afghan pashtun is taliban, you guys will have to make deal with them. We are not talking about few thousand terrorists here and there but millions of people. Its not like Pakistan where few thousands locals and foreigners are doing terrorism.

Are you completely out of your mind... Lets take this statement shred it out for you, so I can show everyone how despicable idiocy of a statement it is.

          First thing first.

The Afghan Taliban is by far a lot fewer than Pakistani TTP. Afghan Taliban at its peak were no more than 25000, and I know that. I have been living there when they ruled, and every available source will confirm that number.

Secondly, after US led coalition, most original Talibans are dead. There is a few thousands here and there, but no more. Most of the currently Taliban are either from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Arabs and chechens.

Let this statement of this Pakistani be a prove to why they are despised in Afghanistan. He literally called all Afghan Pashtuns for terrorists. As soon I get a bit of sympathy for Pakis, a person like you comes around and reminds me why they're despised in the first place...

          I am disgusted by you.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

Something tells me if they were anything like TTP then no one would make deal with them. If these so called Afghan taliban are anything like TTP then making any kind of deal is waste of time and resources as Pakistan learned in last 10 years.

Its actually TTP which is foreign backed, Peshawar attack was done by 2 afghans, 3 arabs and 1 chechen.

Recent attack on shias in Karachi is also believed to be work of foreigners probably Afghans, but investigation is still going on.

I am surprised at the bold part?Pakistani fighting in disguise of talibs in Afghanistan?Really?I know ISI can support them but how can ISI provide the manpower for talibs in Afghanistan?Pakistani pashtuns?Really?

Regarding ttp, prior to zarb e azb operation the strength of TTP was believed to be 1500 though later hafiz gul bahadur group was also added to the compaign and he's believed to had more than 3000 talibs in 2009.

Most of the recent violence in Pakistan is from non ttp factions.Majority of the terrorist activities today are sectarian in nature with the greater involvement from LeJ,which has support of nawaz sharif and saudi dollars(e/g abid).

This is the reason, with only a operation in a small region like NW,we have reduced the civilian fatalities to 2005-06 level in Pakistan. We just need to launch operation in South punjab and Karachi(further advance it) to completely eradicate the terrorism and get rid of ganja sharif and his armed wing LeJ

First of all you have no proof Pak pashtuns are involved now. Anyway if Afghan taliban are terrorists like TTP then peace deals are waste of time. If they have support of average people in rural areas and number in millions then only hope is some kind of peace deal.

All depends on numbers of supporters they have.

if i had to give you a fair number, haqqani network once draw more than 2000 number of militants from my area.but now most of commander are dead and their support is decreasing.

In this Oct. 14, 2011 photo, people in Lakki Marwat, Pakistan, attend the funeral of Maulana Iftikhar (haqqani commander) the day after he was killed alongside a top commander of the militant Haqqani network in a U.S. missile strike in nearby Miran Shah.

LAKKI MARWAT. Pakistan — A militant killed alongside a Haqqani network commander in a U.S missile strike was buried Friday in a ceremony in northwest Pakistan attended by 2,000 locals and supporters, including Arab militants and a lawmaker from the country's largest opposition party.

The size of the funeral indicated significant support in this region for fighters battling the American presence just across the border in Afghanistan. The Pashtun ethnic group that accounts for most of the resistance in Afghanistan straddles the frontier.
The missile attack in North Waziristan killed three people, with the main target being Janbaz Zadran, a top commander of the Haqqani network, which U.S. intelligence believes is the No. 1 threat in Afghanistan and enjoys the support of the Pakistani army.
The two other victims were buried Friday in Lakki Marwat, a Pashtun town close to North Waziristan.
An Associated Press reporter attended the funeral of one of them, Maulana Iftikhar. He was the head of an Islamic school in the North Waziristan town of Miran Shah, and hailed from Lakki Marwat. Locals said he was involved in "jihad" in Afghanistan.
"Maulana Iftikhar is a martyr and we warn America to immediately stop these drone attacks," said Ahmed Jan Qureshi, a local leader of the Islamist Jamiat Ulema Islam political party. "America should realize that these attacks are causing hate against it, and see these thousands of people who are here to attend funeral of a martyr."
Scores of armed men and some Arabs lined up to perform prayers. Also present was Munawar Khan, the town's local lawmaker and a member of the opposition party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He declined to speak to the AP.
The missile strike took place close to Miran Shah, the base of the Haqqani network and other militant groups fighting both the Pakistan state and in Afghanistan. There have been at least 50 such strikes this year, most of them in North Waziristan.
Pakistani intelligence officials said the senior Haqqani commander was also known as Jalil Haqqani.
U.S. officials said later he was called Janbaz Zadran, and was the most senior Haqqani leader in Pakistan to be taken off the battlefield. The officials said Zadran helped the Haqqani network orchestrate attacks on troops in Kabul and southeastern Afghanistan.
U.S. intelligence considers the Haqqani network the No. 1 threat in Afghanistan, and says that it is supported by Pakistani security forces. Pakistan's refusal to sever those links and attack the group is a main source of tension between the two nominally allied countries.
Since 2008, the United States has regularly unleashed unmanned drone-fired missiles against militants in the border region. Pakistani officials protest the strikes, which are unpopular among many Pakistanis, but the country is believed to support them privately and makes no diplomatic or military efforts to stop them.
when TTP rose of power in our area, and army was forced to do operation they spare all the haqqani. army released all the prisoner who proved that they are fighting for haqqani.
my cousin who fought for haqqani told me that army provide money weapons and food to every haqqani center in miran shah on monthly basis. he said army visit every haqqani center regularly for meeting.

Afghan taliban draw militants from Afghanistan area mostly from kandahar, helmand, paktia and kunduz but common people don't support them. they are known for brutalities and revenge thus enjoy support out of fear.
their main supporter and foot soldier are from Pakistan. i presented my area scenario which is a settled area now wonder for yourself how much they enjoy support in tribal areas.

Marwat, as we speak there are active training camps in Pakistan where militants are recruited, munition and explosives for making bombs are amassed and then sent to Afghanistan. Where ISI is not directly involved it gives them cover and protection. It is not even a secrete. The ones here who think Talibs are not Paki proxies are either just pretentious or plain stupid. Those who know and understand this but denies it have the blood of the innocent men, women and kids blown to pieces mercilessly on their hands. May they burn in hell and suffer the same way. Speak the truth brother and have a clear conscious.

I don't want to discuss TTP issues with you guys. I be honest, I am kinda tired of the rhetorics that will spawn out from it. So I will leave it to whatever the individual person think.

Regarding the Pakistani members of insurgence in Afghanistan. The majority of the insurgence are actually from Pakistan, especially from Pashtun and Punjabi ethnic backgrounds. You seems to lay a blind eye to the rise of extremism in Pakistan, which the 1980 got a boost from ISI and CIA. Whether the ISI are directly involved with them or not, I cannot know for sure, but one thing is for sure; there is a horde of them. I speak, based on experience from Afghan soldiers who captured insurgence, so the validate of this is certain.
