Contact lost with 500 security men in Imam Sahib
The Imam Sahib district chief in northern Kunduz province on Monday said they had lost contact with nearly 500 security forces after they were engaged in fierce clashes with thousands of heavily-armed insurgents attacking the town from all directions.

The clashes broke out in the district’s centre on Monday afternoon after about 2,000 heavily-armed insurgents attacked the district’s headquarters.

Amanuddin Quraishi told Pajhwok Afghan News at around 3pm that contacts with the security forces resisting the attackers in Tashguzar, Taza Laqi and other areas had been lost.

He said he had shared the issue with the provincial governor, but so far no additional forces had arrived.

Some of the things you say dont make sense, Kushan.
Dostom is pretty much finished. Most of the north is controlled by Atta and Kunduz is basically controlled by the Taliban except for the city. Parts of Badakhshan and Joz jan is controlled by Taliban allies.

here is article from last year where residents and gov offcials and taliban commanders all say that the whole province except for the city center is in taliban hands.

                Badakhshan:

                Jozjan and faryab:
Fathulla Qaysari, a member of the Afghan parliament representing the northern Faryab Province, gave a passionate and brutally frank speech to the defense and security committee at Afghanistan’s parliament on April 14.

Kushan, Kabul is basically surrounded. If American Aid stops, it will fall in one day.

Atta and Dostom are secrete allies? Dude, they hate each other to the core. Atta basically kicked out Dostom from Mazar with American help. They bombed him and forced him out of the country. Thats when he went to Turkey.

Makes sense, i just had family that came back from the north recently and said it was relatively safe for visit. What i don't get is how they are in joz jan and samangan.

This quote from this article said they re-invaded and increased attacks in the area after american troops pulled out in december.

The battle on the outskirts of Kunduz on Monday, part of a stepped-up wave of attacks after the departure of most foreign troops, prompted President Ashraf Ghani to delay his departure on a state visit to India by several hours

Weapons mailed from Pakistan seized in Kundoz
National Directorate of Security (NDS) – Afghanistan’s intelligence agency – has seized weapons and ICOM radios mailed from Pakistan in northern Kundoz province, a province where hundreds of Taliban are fighting with Afghan National Security forces from the past five days.
A statement issued by the NDS Wednesday states that four weapons, ammunition and nine ICOM radios, widely used by insurgent for communication, that were mailed (locally known as Belti) from Pakistan were seized in Kundoz province.
NDS statement adds that the weapons, ammunition and ICOM radios were disguised as merchandise goods and aimed for use in the ongoing fighting in Kundoz.
Hundreds of Taliban attacked areas in Kundoz province engulfing gun battles with security forces five days before.
Mohammad Omar Safai, governor of Kundoz province says that Taliban are retreating with heavy casualties in the fighting.
Including foreigners 150 militants have been killed and nearly 100 others wounded in clashes so far, according to government officials

Olomi Pledges Support to Locals During Kunduz Visit

In a meeting with senior security and local officials in Kunduz on Thursday, Minister of Interior Noorolhaq Olomi said insurgents were systematically being defeated in the province by Afghan National Security Forces. He said many of them were fleeing.

The Kunduz security crisis earlier this week sparked Olomi's visit Thursday which saw him take to the streets of the city and speak to residents and business people.

While speaking to them he assured them that the ANSF was under orders to clear the area of insurgents.

"I would like to tell you that the enemies of Afghanistan have always tried to harm the innocent people of Afghanistan. They must know that those serving in the lines of security forces, whether in police or national army, they are ready to sacrifice their lives in order to protect their people and their land. A couple of people who have come out of caves are being forced back to caves by our security forces," he said.

The minister said ANSF operations in Helmand, Ghazni, Zabul, Kunduz and Baghlan province were underway and that anti-government armed groups will be destroyed throughout Afghanistan.

"The duty of security forces is to destroy the anti-government armed groups in Badakhshan, Kunduz, Zabul and Baghlan, the same way they were destroyed in Helmand and Ghazni. ANSF has the duty to destroy those who kill the children of this country. Government will never leave the security forces alone," added Olomi.

Insurgent attacks started in parts of Kunduz last Friday, but by Tuesday reinforcement troops had been sent in and along with air support were systematically targeting and destroying insurgent hideouts. So far, 200 insurgents have been killed, including scores of foreigners. ANSF troops have largely brought the province under control in the past few days.
