  • Afghan forces enter Nawa district for first time since Taliban’s

The Afghan National Security Forces took full control of Nawa district in southeastern Ghazni province for the first time since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001.
According to the local government officials, Nawa district was in control of the Taliban militants despite their regime was toppled down following the US-led invasion.
Deputy provincial governor Mohammad Ali Ahmadi said at least 38 militants were killed after the Afghan security forces launched coordinated operations to take control of the district.
Ahmadi further added that Nawa was a strategic route for the militants where they could easily coordinate the movement of the insurgents between Wardak, Logar, Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan and Daikundi provinces.
He said the militants were also operating factories to make Improvised Explosive Device and clinics to treat the wounded Taliban insurgents.
The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the claims by the government officials so far.
