As we celebrate International Women's Day we would like to congratulate women across the globe and especially the brave women of Afghanistan. This day is celebrated in a time when the unity government of Afghanistan has put extra attention on appointing women to high positions. Although a lot of progress has been made in the past 13 years, discrimination against and abuse of women continues. Domestic violence and forced marriages are all too common, and many women in the country suffer from poor access to legal resources and exclusion from public life.
Again on the occasion of March 8, we wish Afghan women happiness, health, success and prosperity in the years ahead.
