During the Taliban regime Afghanistan had one of the lowest life expectancy rates in the world due to lack of healthcare facilities and inadequately trained healthcare professionals. Women had no choice but to deliver their babies at home without the assistance of any doctors or midwives. Consequently, a high number of women and children were dying because of pregnancy related complications.
Today, strong collaboration among the Afghan Government, USAID, and non-governmental organizations has led to significant progress in Afghanistan’s health sector. As a result, numbers of trained health-care workers are increasing, more hospitals, and clinics are being built and the trend is gradually helping to deliver improved health care to more and more people.
What is your opinion on recent improvements in Afghanistan’s healthcare sector?
