We congratulate Dr. Ashraf Ghani as the President-elect of Afghanistan and Dr. Abdullah as Chief Executive. As President Obama stated, “the agreement between the candidates to form a government of national unity paves the way for a more stable and more prosperous future for the country."
President Obama also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to “continue a strategic partnership with Afghanistan and its support to the new government." Once again, congratulations to the Afghan nation on the completion of the historic 2014 election and the peaceful transfer of power from one elected President to another.
