  • Independence Day speech: Karzai warns Pakistan against ‘meddling’ in Afghan affairs

Afghan President Hamid Karzai again accused Pakistan of meddling in Kabul’s internal affairs in his Independence Day speech on Tuesday, a few weeks before he is to step down from office.
Just hours before, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif pledged to forge improved relations with Afghanistan and congratulated President Karzai and the people of Afghanistan on their country’s 95th Independence Day.

However, Karzai blamed Pakistan of interfering in Afghanistan’s internal matters during his speech at the Ministry of Defence in Kabul.

“I want to tell Pakistanis to desist from harming our country,” Radio Azadi quoted Karzai as telling the participants of the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by government officials including presidential candidates Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.
Senior Afghan officials have stepped up criticism at Pakistan in the last days of President Karzai.

The Afghan foreign ministry on Monday claimed that Pakistan is “creating a militia” to disrupt peace in the country.
The foreign ministry spokesman Ahmad Shakib Mustaghni said that Afghan security agencies have collected information that Pakistan is “spending money” to prepare a militia.

“Pakistan plans to send the militia to Afghanistan,” Mustaghni told his weekly briefing in Kabul.
Pakistan has not commented on the latest Afghan allegations but the foreign ministry has previously dismissed all such accusations as baseless.

“The security forces are ready to defend the country’s frontiers and sovereignty,” the Afghan Foreign Ministry said.

He said Afghanistan is involved in diplomatic efforts to find out solution to the problems along the border and cross-border rocket fire.

“If these efforts could not produce results and Pakistan continued its movement, then we have other options to use,” he said without elaborating.
Mutaghni comments came a day after Afghan National Security Council accused Pakistan of “providing weapons and money to its paramilitary forces to target Afghans on this side of the Durand Line from tribal belt.”

A plenary session of the NSC was presided over by President Hamid Karzai and the security officials briefed participants of the meeting on current situation of Afghanistan, a statement from Karzai’s office has said.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his message of felicitation had greeted Karzai and the people of Afghanistan on their Independence Day.

“On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, I wish to convey our warmest felicitations to you and the brotherly Afghan people,” Nawaz Sharif said in a message to Karzai.
The message said the neighbours were bound by an abiding relationship based on a common faith, cultural affinities and a shared history.

“The indissoluble bonds are further reinforced by the neighbours’ common aspirations for peace, stability and prosperity in the region,” the Prime Minister said.

“I have no doubt that, working together, we would continue to build a close and cooperative relationship between our two countries and promote an environment of enduring peace, progress and development,” he had said.

Like a typical Pashtun, he blames others for his/her pitfalls. Instead karzai should have highlighted his past achievements and should have given a vision for the future of Afghanistan. The easiest way is to blame others to hide your own faults.

Strong interferes in the affairs of the weak, thus the solution is making yourself strong enough that others do not have gusts to harm you. This is the owner of the house which gives opportunity to the thief to enter his/her house.

I don't where you have been this whole time, but Pakistan does indeed meddle in afghan affairs. Are you so blind to ignore that the ISI funds the TTP on the other side to attack their Pashtun bretherns in afghanistan? Not only karzai has accused them, but the likes of Armullah Saleh and other politicians in afghanistan have accused pakistan of sending terrorists into Afghanistan.

      Wake up Badlun.

My question is not whether Pakistan does it or not, my question is if Pakistan does it(meddle), then WHY Afghanistan let Pakistan to do so? Why our doors are not strong enough to stop others to enter our house?

          To answer your question,

Because our national security is weak and we are in a prolonged war which causes us to pay little attention to this important issue. Not only that, but the Afghan Army are a bunch of beghirats who drop their guns in battle and run away to safety.

Thus the problem is ours not theirs. Every country does things in their own national interest. There is no free lunch. You cannot ask Pakistan or US not to do things in their interest, you have to seek and struggle for your national interest. Blame game is never effective. make your self strong. This is Realism. This is Realpolitik.

India and Pakistan are enemies but after 1971 there is no war between them? Why? Because of deterrence. Both are nuclear powers. India or Pakistan will think thousand times before an attack. I want to see Afghanistan strong in the same way.

No it's their fault because they are taking advantage of a crippling nation by attacking them by sending missiles and terrorists across the border. A real nation muslim would not do that to another muslim nation. Also Pakistan and india have been in a cold and physical war for over a decade now. Do you not remember the 2008 mumbai attacks? It was conducted by Pakistan's ISI not to mention the on-going conflict in the kashmir region between pakiland and india.

Lets come to reality and think why Pakistan is known as the armpit of terrorism around the world.

When Daud Khan was supporting and arming separatists in Pakistan as soon as it was created whereas Afghanistan was stable, where was the "Muslim brotherhood", the Afghans even invaded Bajaur in 1961.

This is the dumbest accusation I ever heard. Blame Pakistan for every misery Afghans suffer. Give me a break and grow up whoever does that.

TTP is in open war with Pakistan. I highly doubt Pakistan will support any insurgency that have a relation with them.

We have been accusing Pakistan for the past 13 years and what have that achieved... nothing. The reason nothing have changed in the past 13 years is because we blame Pakistan and our problem solution is directed against them.

The fact is and will remain, that the real problem in Afghanistan is Tajiks. They have held key posts in government, military, commercial, education wise etc. Pashtuns have been marginalize time to time. You can look at the situation today, past and even future. See their behavior toward Pashtuns and their mindset regarding Pashtuns. Pashtuns have been beaten, injured and killed by these Tajik thugs.

Despite holding all the key posts in Afghanistan, these Tajiks have still zero patriotism towards Afghanistan. They want to change the name to Khorasan. They want ethnicity to be mention in the Pass. They don't call themselves Afghans. They went berserk just to change the word university into Iranian word for it. They blocked roads, knifed, shot people just because they lost a democratic election. They destroyed Tv stations, just because it was in Pashto. The list is even longer, but I have no time for it.

I hope you guys get the point. We shouldn't look outside to discover the problem, but rather inside our own country. Remove Tajiks from Afghanistan and Afghanistan will flourish like a majestic flower. The reason Tajiks want a bad relation with Pakistan is simply because Pakistan have 40+ million Pashtuns. If Afghanistan get in bad relation with Pakistan, these 40 million Pashtuns will be out of the picture, which is exactly what these Tajiks want. Amanulah saleh is fine example of that.

So my Pashtun brothers, please don't get fooled by these Tajik rhetorics. They want us Pashtuns to fight each other. Never forget what Khushal khan Khattak said.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

You have the right mindset. Afghanistan should only be for Pashtuns, and other races should start their own country.

First of all you have to look at how Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was incorporated into Pakistan by deceit and lies. Pashtuns were not given a choice to form their own independent state or join Afghanistan. Only two options were given join pakistan or India. Ofcourse the vast majority of pashtuns who live in remote and rural areas boycoted the refferendum and didn't vote. Only some urban pashtuns or peshawar and hindkowans who are related to punjabis voted in favour of pakistan because of islam. Afghanistan has never accepted the Duran line since its inception in 1919 as a modern state. A despotic king like Abdur Rahman Khan can not decide the fate of pashtuns, pashtuns will decide the fate of pashtuns.

Pashtuns and Baloch are not Desis, we are not the muslims of subcontinent, we never have belonged to the sub continent proper. Pashtuns and Balochis are Iranic people living on the Iranian plateu. Pakistan was created for the muslims of sub continent to which neither the pashtuns nor the Baloch belong.

I have no problem with punjabis, kashmiris or sindhis. I want all of them to live in their own nations states like punjabistan, sindh and kashmir. I wouldn't mind if pashtunistan becomes part of a union to which punjab will also belong like the EU. The problem here is that the colonialists created these fake boundries to keep the region backward and unstable. To solve this mess the boundries have to be removed and control of resources and atonomy give to people to whom it belongs.

                        1. no, the Sultan of Swat also endorsed Pakistan and the Pashtuns of KPK are actually assimilated Pashtuns, most of them were Dardic and Indo-Aryans who just became Iranicized; the original pashtuns came from modern Afghanistan,FATA and north Baluchistan, it's a fact, don't forget your Indo-Aryan roots.

Desi is actually a BROAD term, in fact many South Indian people do not call themselves Desis, they get offended, it's only a term for North Indians and Eastern Pakistanis(Sindhis & Punjabis), so Desi is not the same as South Asian.

Also Pashtuns have had strong links with South Asian, the Afghans ruled over South Asia for a long time, they even had settlements in Rohillakhand and Shahjahanpur, India, and also help build Delhi.

There 8 million Pashtuns settled in Punjab right now, most are recent migrants, but some are older settlers like Niazis,Burkis,Durranis etc in fact South Punjab has a lot of Baloch and Pashtun influence, many Seraiki-speaking Baloch live in Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzzfargarh; Mir Chakar Baloch, the Baloch hero is buried in Satgarah in Punjab and Afghan king Ahmed Shah Abdali is believed to have been born in Multan, I'm not sure about this though.

Also Baloch have strong ties with Sindhis, many Sindhi tribes have Baloch origins, in fact Baloch are closer to Sindhis than they are to Persians or Kurds, some sources say 40% of Sindhis have Baloch lineage and Karachi was once part of Balochistan, many towns in Karachi such as Lyari,Orangi,Bizenjo town, Lasbela etc still retain Baloch names.
