  • Days of Clashes: Tens dead in Fighting between Hezb e Islami and Taliban

KABUL (PAN): As many as 22 Taliban insurgents have been killed in sporadic fighting with Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) supporters over the last few days in the central province of Maidan Wardak, an official said on Sunday.

On July 19, clashes erupted between the groups in different parts of restive Nirkh district, governor's spokesman, said Shahidullah Shahid. At least five Taliban fighters were killed in an overnight battle.

Bodies of the militants were seen at the site, he said, identifying four of the dead as Mullah Marjan, Mullah Faiz Muhammad, Mullah Mangal and Zainatullah, all from Nirkh district. The fifth victim is yet to be identified.

He said the sporadic fighting was still ongoing. The latest clash continued late into Saturday night, said a resident of the area, Himmat. Combatants from the two sides freely used heavy and light weapons, he added.

Area people were worried about the worsening situation, said the resident, who criticised Afghan and foreign soldiers for not intervening to secure a ceasefire between rival factions.

Both groups have dug up trenches and hoisted their flags on them, according to Himmat. None of the sides could be reached for comment on the overnight firefight.

Since the fighters were holed up in civilian houses, the security forces did not want to act against them, the governor's spokesman said. "To prevent civilian fatalities, we have decided against any action."

About 15 Taliban and two HIA fighters were killed and 13 others wounded in the first two days of the clashes last week. Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, denied on Monday there had been any fighting between the groups.

The US is using media to make it seem like they are against each other. It's probably tribal feuds that they are labelling as HIG vs Taliban.
They were united prior to 2008, but they have killed scores from each sides because of ideology differences.

Hezb e Islami has anounced to halt attacks on Afghan government employees and in some cases ANA and ANP. Whereas the Taliban is beating Coalition troops through Afghan troops, by terrifying them and the central government.
This is nothing new, scores have been killed since 2008.
Also, Taliban doesn't allow Hezb to operate, because according to them, there should be one group, fighting under one banner, one commander etc.
This is a true report, those commanders that are killed are famous Taliban commanders...

I think a part of it has to do with Pakistani policy also, because Pakistan has always been known for stirring up issues between different factions.
I can assure that this incident will go back to Islamabad, or at least the Islamabad is in favor of Afghans fighting each other.

          Nazia khorey,
I have first and second cousins both in Hezb and Taliban, both are directed from across the border. You might be right up to an extend but their recruiting centers and bases are all in Shamshato camp and other cities of Pakistan.
There has to be some influence, if not any.
But, I have to admit that HIG is a party full of intellects (PHDs, economists etc)
Even their ground level commanders are Engineer saib and Doctor saib.

This is not uncommon when you the world allows warlords and militants to make their own rules and regulations.

There is no solution to this and it is very wise of the Afghan army not to intervene because why should they become the middle men of two gangs of mercenaries and militants.

The only solution would be to do nothing at all.

They will kill eachother and Pakistan will fund and support it.

            Kind Regards

I solely blaime America, the Arab states and Pakistan to enpowerfing the Warlords and turning Afghanistan into the state that it is.

Firstly, The Afghan people should have crushed the Peshawer Seven right at the beginning then our current situation would have not been this miserable.

                      Kind Regards
