I don't think she is saying anything different; what I understand her to be saying is that the Paki Army preaching/propagating the Jihad mantra is not doing so "irrationally" and implication "unprofessionally" and what the risk by extension the policy carries are calculated. I however would not buy the believe or thinking that the Paki army is ideological per se which she says the state is (in which the deep state is the military) or at least the contemporary Paki state, I think an alcohol drinking, wife swapping army is anything but muslim. There is a difference between rhetoric and preaching and indoctrinating low ranks and soldiers with Jihad and the actual thinking in control and command of the army which uses Jihad etc as a strategic tool and mean to end.

That I agree with. I would say its complex in that the military probably has "Pakistan must survive at all costs" nationalists, inside men who answer to the outsider powers, and people like these:

I read that a while back and was surprised no one picked up on that event occurring. Such a potential coup should have made much bigger news. The implications are as you say where the army has its own internal fractures.

^^ That seems to be the thinking. I am glad B.A. also ascribe to this view. The Afghan government is also not buying it and there seems to be credible intelligence and reports that Haqqani and other anti-Afghanistan groups to have been relocated to other parts of Waziristan and their leaders to cities such as Islamabad and Karachi.

Now with this mickey mouse game with its neighbors and U.S., "double crossing" which Barakzai calls it the militants which it want to use against others, the risk and backlash which such operations carry and that just for some money or eye washing, one wonders if Pakistan is badly stuck in the mess it has created and is headlong into losing the big war or is indeed in pursuit of Pyrrhic victory. *USA does know Pakistan has played the Double game throughout its history(Either stopped or reducing it now)
