If there were medals for surrendering, then Pakistan would have won them all.
Japanese claimed to be a superior race and they showed by never surrendering. They would rather die than surrender. Even Nazi Germany gave a hell of a fight to the entire world and only fell down after Berlin was ran over by Soviets and the allies.
