Antiwar.com (run by the Randolph Bourne Society) and NY Times are questioning Pakistani claims regarding supposed militants killed:
The point the Times is making is that Pakistan has no evidence to support its claims generally and it puts itself in an incredulous situation by not permitting reporters to verify and validate its claims.
Antiwar.com went on to say:
But military experts warned that most militants appeared to have fled North Waziristan’s urban areas in advance of the army assault by hiding among the flood of civilians who have left for neighboring districts. Pakistani officials said the number of displaced residents had exceeded 900,000, making it Pakistan’s biggest conflict-induced crisis in years.
The military says that 447 militants and 28 soldiers have been killed so far in the operation, but its claims are difficult to verify given that journalists are barred from the zone of operations.
Antiwar.com went on to say:
Despite all of the claims of guilt, not a single one of the slain in any of the attacks has been named. This is not unusual, and indeed most victims of US or Pakistani attacks in the tribal areas are never publicly identified as anything beyond “suspect.”
