  • Adnan Rashid arrested in S Waziristan

PESHAWAR: In a major breakthrough during the ongoing Zarb-i-Azb military operation, a key Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander, Adnan Rashid has been reportedly arrested by Pakistani security forces.

Highly placed sources told Dawn.com on Tuesday that the firebrand Taliban commander was arrested by the forces in Shakai valley of South Waziristan four days ago in injured condition after he tried to escape from North Waziristan’s cordoned off area due to the military operation.

He has been shifted to an undisclosed location by a helicopter.

Over 400 terrorists killed in N Waziristan operation: ISPR

Adnan Rashid, who was serving a jail term for attacking former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, had escaped from Bannu Jail on Aril 15, 2012 after an attack by insurgents armed with guns, grenades and rockets. Nearly 400 prisoners including Taliban militants also escaped in the jail break.

Rashid also gained attention by writing a letter to teenage education activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in an attempt to kill her. Adnan Rashid had said he wished the attack hadn't happened, but told Malala that she was targeted for speaking ill of the Taliban.

He was enjoying the facility of cellular phones inside different jails where he was lodged after being sentenced to death by a field general court martial for his alleged attempt on the life of Gen Musharraf.

The former junior technician of Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Rashid is a resident of Chota Lahore area of Swabi district in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtukhwa province. He is fluent in English, Pashto and Urdu. He used to contribute to several social networking sites including Blogs and Facebook from the prison. He had joined PAF in 1997. He was around 24 when he was arrested in early 2004.

The escaped prisoner was in contact with the world outside the prison through his cellular phone, according to sources. He was also in touch with several journalists and used to send them messages through short message service (SMS).

Prior to his escape from Bannu Jail, Rashid continued to plead his innocence and claimed that his only crime was that he had voted “No” in the referendum held by the then military ruler Gen Musharraf.

Skin him live and hang him in public after putting in remand for atleast 2 weeks.

Or offer him to the people he's responsible for death

This is one major success.TTP with this has no major operation planner left

Your napak army claimed few months ago , that they have killed adnan rashid in air strikes. Bannu, you know what does it mean?, your ISPR has no credibility and more than 80 suspected terrorists killed that day in jet blitz were not adnan rasheeds but innocent men, women and children

Pakistani Security Forces Say Key Taliban Commander Arrested

          By RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal
          July 15, 2014

Pakistani security forces claim they have arrested a key commander of the Tehrik-e-Taliban militant (TTP) group.

Adnan Rashid was reportedly captured following an exchange of fire in South Waziristan tribal district.

An RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal correspondent, quoting intelligence sources, says Rashid was hiding in a house in Shakai area of South Waziristan when security forces, acting on a tip-off, raided the house three days ago.

Rashid had been convicted and sentenced to death for his alleged role in an attack on Pakistan's former President Pervez Musharraf in 2003.

He had been awaiting execution in a prison in Bannu city when militants stormed the prison in 2012 and released him along with nearly 400 other inmates.

Rashid later masterminded a jailbreak in Dera Ismail Khan. Some reports suggest he was heading the Ansar al-Aseer group of the TTP, which is responsible for releasing Taliban from Pakistani prisons.

then what will be the difference between Army and Taliban? Civilized nations have a justice system and legal framework to deal with such cases.

These are all rumours or drama at best by the uniformed Taleban to take the non-uniformed Taleb into protective custody to use his skills on some other occasion.

I agree but i don't want them to be treated like the rest of the prisoners.

The minor punishment for them should be to be given meal only once in 2 days,Water once per day.

or else they should be killed and never taken as prisoners.

Yea because beheading and kicking around the heads of PA soldiers is justified?

                        You are a munafiq.

I am not munafiq. Study the teachings of Islam. The maximum punishment even in war is to behead or death punishment. You can not torture or skin alive anyone even a non Muslim.

Now do not tell me taliban did this and taliban did that. I am not a pro taliban but I am against the extreme munafiqat of pak army and ISI.
I have seen videos and have heard from people about the extreme tortures by pak army with Pashtuns brothers. They are worse than Americans in brutality.
Pakwatan bhai, please read about the Islamic version about the punishments and torturing and also that who can give punishments and how to treat war prisoners.

Show me anything in Pakistani constitution or in Islamic laws which talks about whatever you are talking about.
If not, then you are a transgressor and extremist having extreme thoughts about your enemy. Then there is no difference between you and these people because you don't obey the constitution of Pakistan and you don't obey the law of Allah, it makes you a ghaddaar, a traitor.
