  • Human Rights Violations by Pakistani Military

The Washington Post had an excellent article yesterday documenting in detail the infringement on human rights done by the Pakistani Military against its own people, the Pashtuns of Waziristan.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/...558_story.html

Here are some key quotes validating the view that this operation is for show and collectively punishing a population on par with the British/Ango Military strategy of collective punishment (this is now considered a human rights violation by most).

Here is what one piece of human excrement said to an innocent man:

Two weeks ago, a Pakistani soldier came to Mir Abat Khan’s home in North Waziristan and issued a stark threat: If you don’t leave your home, we will kill you.
^Basically, the soldier was threatening the life, liberty, and property of this innocent man who had no militant ties.

The extent of the crime goes beyond just displacing these people but also guaranteeing the destruction of their agrarian base:

Khan brought 12 family members on the trek. They left everything behind: their belongings, their food, two donkeys, three cows, 10 chickens.
The army knows full well that these people depend on these animals for food, work, and trade.

Here is how Pakistan ensured these 70,000 some souls would have to deal with their situation:

When the displaced Pakistanis first arrived, many of them had no shelter from the blistering sun and very little to eat.
Apart from the clear Pakistani Media Military Complex propaganda, here is a real life view of a Wazir:

It’s unclear how long the refugees will remain in Afghanistan. Some suggested that their anger at the Pakistani government might keep them here for many months.
“I don’t want to go back soon,” Khan said. “We’ve suffered so much in these last weeks.”
Despite Pakistan's military crowing about victory and this being a clearing operation, the tribal member offers the reality ground level view:

But many assume that a significant number of militants fled the area in the lead-up to the operation.
“The only ones affected were civilians,” Wazir said.
This is what Pakistan and its cheerleaders are bringing to Pashtuns with its double game policy instead of admitting its role it has decided to extend the game even farther at the expense of its own people and at the expense of Pashtun lives.

The Protection of Pakistan Bill 2014 allows the security forces to shoot suspects on sight, arrest suspects without a warrant and withhold information about where detainees are being held or what they are being charged with.

The Wall Street Journal isn’t ignorant of the Pakistani army’s crimes. Only three months ago, the Journal reported on an army massacre of unarmed civilians (Saeed Shah, “Pakistani Army Accused of Waziristan Killings of Civilians,” Dec. 19, 2013.) This earlier story quoted local residents, three of them named, who told how an army unit ordered more than 20 men out of a restaurant in North Waziristan and then killed them execution style. No trial, no jury. The restaurant owner said that the men killed were truck drivers. The article said that the army was reacting to a suicide attack on an army checkpoint which had killed five soldiers. An army spokesman rejected the residents’ account of the slaughter, instead claiming that the army had killed several armed terrorists in a series of firefights.
In the time-honored military tradition of destroying a village in order to save it, the army bombards villages either with insufficient advance notice or with no notice at all. A December 12, 2012 report from Amnesty International: “The Hands of Cruelty: Abuses by Armed Forces and Taliban in Pakistan’s Tribal Areas” relates that the army arbitrarily detains people in the tribal areas for long periods without charge and without due process of law. In some cases, family members have no idea what has happened to their loved ones. Many surviving detainees allege torture. Other detainees never return.
The army’s operations in FATA drive unbelievable numbers of tribals from their homes. 300,000 people from the Bajaur and Mohmand Agencies were driven from their homes by Operation Sher Dil in 2008/2009. This is comparable to evacuating everyone in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A little more than a year later, according to Pakistani journalist Imtiaz Gul, military operations in Kurram, Orakzai, and Mohmand “caus[ed] nearly two hundred thousand people to flee from their homes.” Mohmand had already suffered the Army’s ravages previously. Since the Army’s campaigns in FATA never permanently dislodge the Taliban, the people of each tribal agency get killed and uprooted again and again.

It's almost impossible to find out what is happening inside the tribal area now.
Difficult for outsiders to enter at any time, the army has barred all access.
But the BBC has obtained footage from a professional cameraman who got into North Waziristan with help from the Taliban, as the campaign began.
He spent a week travelling there, filming the aftermath of several Pakistani strikes - although he admits he was not allowed to record everything he saw.
We can't identify him for his own security.
At one point, he met a local Taliban commander who was escaping across the border to Afghanistan in his pick-up, just a short drive down the road.
But underlining fears of a potential backlash, the commander vowed to take revenge on Pakistan "until doomsday".

The BBC has obtained rare footage of the Pakistani army's strikes on the Taliban in North Waziristan, as Andrew North reports
The BBC has obtained rare footage of the Pakistani army's offensive against the Taliban in North Waziristan which suggests some shades of "terrorist" may still be safe.

Rather the contrary, if you look through what I have written here for some time I was previously accused of being an ISI agent etc etc etc and so on and so forth because of just how much I questioned the credentials and operations conducted by the ANA. I was the first to mention the abuses by AbdulRazzaq Achakzai and posted that article the Master of Spin Boldak when it was first published which details his utilization of American and ANA firepower against the Noorzai tribe in Kandahar.

I do not worry about labels or what perceptions are of my agenda or my intention. If I was out to win a popularity contest then I would not have the will to say half of what I have.

There are a number of instances where I discuss moments in history that led to the formulation of the strategic depth philosophy and laid the blame at the feet of the proper party based on the evidences at hand.

In this instance and action of the Pakistani Military it is clearly in the wrong, clearly committing gross violations, and clearly doing it for its own long held interests at the expense of the people.

The folks like here Shah Baz who are cheer leaders of the action will have to answer for why they are so easily led astray by jingoistic propaganda so as to view the lives of FATA denizens as expendable for the supposed security of some Karachiites et al.

So your problem is that you admit the Pak Army has the blood of Pashtuns, but you also want to blame the ANA for doing the same as well. Sure, I agree, both have killed innocent Pashtuns(although Pak Army at a far larger scale).

Do you agree, or are you going to shamelessly defend the army? Either condemn both the Harami officers of the Army of Pakistan and Afghanistan(that ordered attacks on Pashtuns), or remain shut as you too are complicit in the death of innocent Pashtuns.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
