Talks in progress to bring back Dr. Abdullah in election process

    By Ghanizada - Mon Jun 30 2014, 9:07 pm

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials said Monday that negotiations are in progress to bring back Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in election process.
IEC spokesman, Noor Mohammad Noor, said the leadership of election commission met with President Hamid Karzai and his vice presidents to discuss the return of Dr. Abdullah to election process.
Noor further added that political steps have also been taken in this regard by the leadership of election commission.
This comes as Abdullah accused the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) for not being impartial in election.
Abdullah announced Sunday that his team will not accept the decisions of the two electoral bodies after this which prompted concerns that his decision to halt ties with electoral bodies will possibly taken the country towards a crisis.
He demanded to organize a third round election in three eastern provinces; however, election commission officials have said that a third round is against the law.
In the meantime, the election commission said the preliminary vote results will be announced on 2nd July despite political pressures.
Noor said the election commission is expecting that issue is resolved as soon as possible and Dr. Abdullah return back to election process along with his team.
He also added that the election commission is prepared to answer the demands of Dr. Abdullah but he insisted that such demands should have a legal basis.

Abdullah’s team says they will not accept preliminary vote results

      By Ghanizada - Thu Jul 03 2014, 6:32 pm

The electoral team of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said Thursday that they will not accept the preliminary vote results for the runoff presidential election.
Baryalai Arsalaye, head of Dr. Abdullah’s electoral team, said the fraudulent and clean votes have not been separated during the vote counting and therefore their team will not accept the preliminary results which will be released on Monday.
Arsalaye said they still boycott any decision by the independent election commission and independent electoral complaints commission.
He said the audit of votes in 1930 polling sites is not enough since the revaluation of votes in these polling stations will not impact the election process.
He insisted that all those ballot boxes which have ballot papers in favour of a single candidate should be audited.
Abdullah’s team claims that over 2 million fraudulent votes have been casted in favour of his rival during the runoff election and accused the electoral bodies for being involved in industrial scale fraud.
The preliminary votes results for the runoff presidential election was due to be announced on Wednesday; however, the election commission officials said the release was delayed until Monday to ensure transparency has been considered during the vote counting process.
IEC officials said the ballot papers from 1930 polling stations will be audited and will then release the preliminary vote results.
