I think you're forgetting that Pashtuns and Punjabis are separated by a natural border called the indus river.

Afghanistan came into being in 1767 after durrani empire, there was no such thing as afghanistan before that ,pashtuns and punjabis etc were under arabs then ghaznavids then ghorids then sayyads and then list goes on. they were part of empires and remained under one federation.There was no country named afghanistan but the region of north present day afghanistan was referred as khorasan, and other southern to that was all hindustan as u can find hindu temples still in kandahar, kabul etc. its a fact u dont wana admit. can you prove to me that there was a country called afghanistan that u assume to have 5000 year old history. if that was the case then if pakistan is renamed indus , it would have history older than any other country in the world.
Even tajiks were not known before 1000AD , uzbeks were not known to the world until 1400s and hazara no mention till late 1500s..

PF member Herat aka RTR probably has the best solution. Create autonomous ethnic homogenous states united under a federal system similar to the EU or the US. There would be freedom of movement and free trade and local authorities would have freedom to make their own laws.
