Afghans will be heading to polling stations on June 14th to cast their votes in run-off for their preferred Presidential candidates. This would be the third election since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, and is set to be the first democratic transfer of power in the history of Afghanistan. Afghan National Security Forces planning efforts, which began months prior to first round of election, set the conditions for successful security operations on Election Day to allow a record turnout at the polling stations. Afghan National Army and Police secured more than 6,000 polling centers across the country in first round of elections and they have promised if not better the same level of security will be provided for Afghans to cast their votes. Digital Engagement Team at U.S. CENTCOM wishes a peaceful, free and transparent run-off election for Afghans.
