  • Lights out:Abid Sher Ali orders disconnection of electricity supply to President Hous

ISLAMABAD / KARACHI: The Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali ordered Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO) on Tuesday to disconnect the electricity supply to the President House, Express News reported.

He also has ordered that the supply should be disconnected from the Parliament lodges, Sindh House, Balochistan House, National Database Registration Authority, Motorway police and the Capital Development Authority.

He further instructed IESCO to disconnect the electricity supply to Frontier Works Organisation, Petroleum Commission, Public Works Department, TMO Muree, TMO Rawalpindi and the environment office.

The electricity supply to the Parliament House was disconnected on Tuesday.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered IESCO to resume electricity supply to the Supreme Court.

    Press conference
During a press conference in Islamabad, Ali said that the electricity connections to all institutions as well as individual consumers who have not paid their bills will be disconnected.

He stated that it was unfair to say that any one province was being target, further stating that the ministry will not let anyone steal electricity whatever the location may be.

The minister also revealed that the Sindh owed Rs56 billion in electricity dues while Azad Kashmir owed Rs33 billion, adding that a campaign against electricity thieves had been started.

Ali also said that he has told Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that if markets were closed around 8pm then 1000 megawatts of electricity can be saved.
    ‘Ready to pay dues’

Referring to the recent disconnections, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, while addressing the Sindh Assembly today, said that he requests the premier to restore the electricity supply that was disconnected.

He added that people who disconnect electricity illegally can be arrested.
The chief minister also said that the provincial government was ready to pay the dues of the people who could not pay their bills.

Reading out the rights of the Sindh government, Shah stated that the Sindh government has the right to build grid stations for transmission of electricity within the province.

The biggest theft of electricity in Pakistan occurs in Punjab especially in the industrial hubs of Faisal Abad, Gujranwalla, Sialkot, etc.

KPK is a energy surplus state.

With the development of 300's dams in KPK by PTI,The KPK contribution will increase even more into the national Grid

Stupidity/idiocy should have a limit. Unfortunately, for PTI morons, it doesn't have any. Can any sane person believe construction of 300 dams over a period of 5 years is possible? A dam needs finances, planning, feasibility, assessment of environmental impact, approval from a number of bodies, etc., which needs time as well as resources.

Small dams.most of them might not be for electricity but as water reservoirs.

If i remember correctly,Alone a firm from china was interested in about 80-100dams.KPK has alot of potential for natural dams.

we are not talking about something like tarbela or mangla

Taleb Khan had bragged one day before the elections on May 12, 2013 that Punjab govt of Shahbaz Sharif will see how does he ends load-shedding in KP within 3 months as if he has a magic wand. It is one year that the Imran Khan's PTI has taken power in KP but load-shedding situation has worsened instead of improving.

target should always be high,Even if he builds 50 of the total 300 target. It will be a big achievement.

Even if false promises but the inauguration of projects alone has alot of positive impacts.

I beg to differ,The Load shedding situation has improved though slightly.

Load shedding is a federal problems since unlike india,All our energy is transferred to national Grid first.

But by the introduction of Per city Power quota system by KPK.the loadshedding in winter is non existing in cities like abbottabad,Mansehra and is extremely low even now.

The situation in Bannu,Dera ismail khan has also improved in winter with respect to the last year.though the situation was still bad in bannu last ramadan.

Even a small dam requires a lot of planning, assessment, and finances. The Gomal Zam dam took many years to complete and that also with money provided by USAID. There are many small-sized dams proposed years back and some are still under feasibility assessment.

Even feasibility assessment needs robust financing and time. It is not kids game that you say it and you get it.

Instead of engineering fantasies, Taleb Khan and his team should promise something that is realistic and doable.

Will, situation in winters is always relatively better. It is summer that causes problems. But if there were any improvement, that was due to federal govt measures. If power generation and distribution is federal govt subject why on earth did Taleb Khan boost?

Is he deceiving people and doing politics or is he plain stupid to pledge something he cannot deliver?

It may be right for a stupid lay man in the street to boost but not right for a serious politician. That is the point.

Here is information about Gomal Zam dam. Its construction started in 2001. But it was completed in 2011. It took 11 long years to complete it.

Here is Khan Khwar Project. It also took almost 9 years to complete.

Here is info about other dam construction projects.

Not that, that is the time from starting construction to completing construction. If one adds the time for planning, feasibility study time, resource acquisition, etc., the total time from initiation to completion runs into decades.

PTI folk need to evolve / be educated now. They are harming Pashtun interests with their naivety.

They are doing their best.Pakistan as a whole doesnt recieve FDI and within pakistan the most affected province in Pakistan aka KPK recieves the least %age of FDI or almost non existing

So it is indeed hard for Imran khan to bring about foriegn investment in KPK but still they have managed something from some chinese firms unlike the past 5 years when the development was non existing.

Alot of investment is coming into KPK.ofcourse it will take atleast 2-3 years for us to see any result.

Though PTI educational reforms in KPK are even better than Punjab and sindh.

PUNJAB literacy rate is about 62-63% And KPK 54-55%.Don't be surprised if after 5 years KPK is either ahead or almost comparable. And if PTI wins again after 5years.I am sure KPK will be having the highest literacy rate in Pakistan
