  • pak army terrorists camps in Gilgit-Baltistan area

Recently i spoken to a couple of police officers from Gilgit area.
I talk to them nicely and share some thoughts with them then they start telling me how pakhtuns are brave and good people. We are like pakhtuns they said.We are all sunis.
Pashtuns and northreners getting training from pak army camps based in Gilgit area.
many of them are afghan-pashtuns too.
They fight in kashmir and in afghanistan.TTP fighters are also trained there.
They said punjabis are cowards and we northerners are brave.
This expose another base of pakistani army .

MANY sunis in Gilgit-Baltistan are in war with shais there.
The shai are also in good number there.
They said shai army officers also support their brothers there.
The sunis and shai hate eachothers in Baltistan, they said.

Sometime back I visited a 'modern' madrassa that was run by Gilgities. They had boys from all over Northern Pakistan though mostly Pashtunkhwa and some Pashtun boys from Karachi. Apparently they taught a 'modern' curriculum with computers and kept the school and boarding low cost.

When I was chatting with the principal he said that 'Mere walid saab ne Islam qabool kiya. Dada mere ghair mazab tha kyunke wo Shia tha.' He got his own religious training in the Panjab.

This story was repeated over and over amongst the staff.

Interesting how ordinary people suddenly decide who is and isn't Muslim (even in their own family) whilst despite other regional tensions the Ullema in Saudi do not bar majority shias from hajj/umrah by declaring them as "ghair".

The point here is that the divisions in Gilgit come from elsewhere. Sunni expansionists (with their HQs in the Panjab) are active in the Northern areas through missionary work, education programmes etc.

I agree, sunni-shia tension in northren areas is quite recent phenomena.

Most important they are way too anti India compared to the mainland Kashmiri.

May be because GB never truely was part of kashmir
