  • Pakistan must cut off ties with Afghan rebels: MP

A senior opposition leader in the Senate on Friday said Pakistan must break links with Afghan insurgents if Islamabad had to adhere to Article 40 of the Constitution. Taking part in a debate on a motion on foreign policy, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator Farhatullah Babar told the upper house the basis of foreign policy formulation was laid out in the article.
“”If we have to adhere to this Article we must break alleged links with any Afghan insurgents and stop the ability of Afghan fighters to seek refuge in Pakistan.”
He said the military establishment had been leading the foreign policy formulation without any accountability. “Duplicity in policy making is too obvious.”
Another senator Afrasiyab Khattak said the security situation in neighbouring Afghanistan was fragile and Pakistan had to quickly frame its policy keeping in view fluid developments in the region.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

The sooner Pakistan stops exporting terrorism to neighboring countries, the better it would be for the region/world.

The sooner the West and Saudi stop exporting terrorism to all countries, the better it would be for the region and the entire world.

I imagine that sooner or later, they would have to drop their claims since the economy isn't doing as well. Also as India gets more and more powerful, Pakistan will have no chance but to obey what its mighty neighbor says, the same way Pakistan obeys the US, China, etc. Another concept with Pakistan is that it behaves more or less like a prostitute(selling its soul to the highest bidder, albeit willfully), sometimes it has no problem killing thousands of its own people(think of what happened in Swat, and what continues to happen in the Pashtun belt)for as long as the elite have decent sized bellies.

          Best,

Pakistan supports the US/NATO war with NATO supplies. Without the NATO supplies, there would be no war/instability.

The reason why an Afghan insurgency and Pakistani insurgency exist is due to the foreign NATO presence in Afghanistan, and Pakistan's support for it.

PPP Senator Babar has been one of the most vocal critics of Nawaz government peace initiative with the Pakistani insurgency. His interests lay in the status quo, continued NATO war in Afghanistan, and Pakistan support for it. The situation can no longer support the status quo.

I admire this PMLN Govt especially Ishaq Dar on economic Front.Infact i had become a fan of Ishaq Dar But the foriegn policy is extremely poor.

PPP govt foriegn policy was weak though neutral. This govt is unnecessary turning iran into Anti Pakistan state.Other than this This Govt does has soft heart for militants especially of the LEJ(Pubjab),Whom are responsible for the majority of the attacks against Shia/Minorities.

                1. Pakistan has had issues with Afghanistan since its creation by Britain in the 1940s and the main issue was the Durrand line and Afghans wanting Pakhtunkhwa back.

                2. Due to their "need" to "neutralize" the (supposed) Afghan threat, the Pakistani military establishment decided the country must be weak and divided and also be within the Pakistani sphere of influence.

Thus the Taliban were just an example of this and were sponsored and promoted by Rawalpindi (where the Pakistani army has its base) to control Afghanistan.

                3. If the Pakistanis allow Afghanistan to be stable then they will become stronger.

If they become stronger there is a chance that they could claim Pashtun areas of Pakistan.

A stronger Afghanistan if it becomes more successful than Pakistan will also make Pakistani Pashtuns question the point of staying with Pakistan i.e. a strong Pakistan and weak Afghanistan will ensure Pakistani Pashtuns want to stay with Pakistan, if it is the other way round (i.e. a strong Afghanistan and weak Pakistan) then Pakistani Pashtuns may want to join Afghanistan.

Remember Pakistan is a very new and artificial creation so the Punjabi military and elite who run the country are always worried that their fake country could break up. If "Pakistan" (Punjabistan) breaks up, the Punjabi Muslims (who have never had a state in their history, and have no history) will lose everything.

                4. Moderate and sensible Pakistanis would want Rawalpindi not to sponsor Taliban militants as they believe the Taliban ideology is a cancer and a threat to Pakistan but in of itself is wrong (even if it didn't affect Pakistan).

However Pakistan is not controlled by such people but by the Punjabi generals of Rawalpindi.

They fear a stable Afghanistan is a threat to the borders of Pakistan.

They will keep on destabilizing Afghanistan thus Afghans will keep on hating them, eventually this situation will end sooner or later, years or decades later in the break up and collapse of Pakistan.

You might be right but even Pakistan today is forced to change its foriegn policy.

The Hardcore Islamist General of Zia era are either retired or in extremely small numbers. They were the one who had coined the concept of Strategic Depth in Pakistan.

With this Govt in Pakistan and Ashraf Ghani in Afghanistan. The Relation between Both countries will be closest since the creation of Pakistan

                            Pakistan needs a reality check.
Pakistan as a nation suffers the disease grand delusion, superiority complex in matters of national and military pride, an abysmal level of ignorance - not lack of education - the educated too have this fantastic inability to recognise how out of kilter their views of the world are. How much more humiliation can a nation take.
                            Just my opinion.
