  • New governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot speak Pashto

    1. Pashto is the language of millions and millions of people, the majority of people, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

    2. How can a man who is supposed to govern the lives of millions of people not even speak their language?

Just another sign of Punjabi domination in Pakistan and the inferior role of Pashtuns within it.

    Can a non-Pashtun lead KP?

APRIL 5, 2014 BY MIAN ABRAR
    Sardar-Mehtab-Ahmed-Khan-1
    ISLAMABAD

The hunt for a suitable person to be appointed as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governor has taken a new turn as tribal elders and defence establishment have expressed serious concerns over the reports of appointment of non-Pashtun politician Sardar Mehtab Abbasi as governor of the province.
The KP governor is traditionally a post which plays as a bridge between the tribal elders and the federal government. Moreover, the army establishment has also conveyed their concerns as Abbasi is seen as an anti-army politician.
Sources in the ruling PML-N said that following the reports of Abbasi’s appointment as governor, the tribal elders of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) have conveyed their reservations to the government.
Following these developments, the sources said, the prime minister held a meeting with his close aide Major (r) Amir and offered him the slot which was politely turned down by the former ISI officer.

The sources maintained that being a Pashtun, Amir could be the most suitable choice for the slot as he is respected among tribal elders as well as militants – the major players in FATA. Due to his long affiliation with the Sharifs, he was also arrested soon after General Pervez Musharraf toppled the government in 1999. Amir had also rejected many offers made by former president Asif Zardari.

The sources said that Nawaz Sharif wanted to appoint one of his trusted aides as his representative in KP where the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was making major gains due to reforms and better services to the people at large.
“It is amazing to note that Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi is not a Pashtun. Moreover, since he has also raised slogans for an independent province of Hazara, he is not welcomed among Pashtu speaking people, especially among tribal elders who are all Pashtun. Moreover he is also not entitled to become the governor as the people of his own area had rejected him in recent general elections and rather a newcomer PTI man was elected as MNA,” a source in the ruling party said.

Another source said that it was only Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who wanted to get Abbasi appointed as the KP governor. Nisar also urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to arrange Abbasi’s meeting with the prime minister.

“Finally, Shahbaz Sharif unwillingly arranged meeting with the prime minister. During the meeting, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi expressed his willingness to become the KP governor on pretext that the elders of FATA had turned against the incumbent governor due to corrupt practices and his lack of interest in getting violence ended from FATA,” the source added.
However, the source said, Nawaz told Abbasi that he would take any decision in two weeks.

“But instead of waiting for two weeks, information was leaked to media that the prime minister had decided to appoint Abbasi as the new governor which created unrest and concern among the people of FATA as well as the defence circles,” the source added. Another PML-N leader said that the reluctance shown by Major (r) Amir to accept the slot had left the PML-N government high and dry.

“Due to the efforts of Major Amir, the dialogue process has seen a breakthrough. Moreover, he has been instrumental in making the peace process a success without seeking personal favours which has greatly impressed the prime minister. The reluctance shown by Amir has not only surprised the prime minister but also it has brought both old time friends closer,” the source added.
The sources said that Nawaz was unwilling to appoint Sardar Mehtab Abbasi as governor KP in the recent past. However, this time around, Chaudhry Nisar had made a fresh effort to get him appointed by using the clout of Shahbaz.

Whether we want or not,Hazara people are part of KPK and we can't ignore 20-25% of KPK population and than later blame punjabis of not giving us rights.

Every single domicile holder of KPK has the right to become even the CM of KPK.

Bengali aka the only bengali with Pakistan army blood,Will you stop dividing the pashtuns on this forum?

This is the problem with those people who do not know the ground realities. Do you know that the post of governor in KP is totally different from the posts in the other 3 provinces? In KP Governor rule the whole tribal belt and the frontier regions. Chief minister has nothing to say in these areas.

Apart from FATA , governor also has his say in PATA. There is a completely independent and a huge FATA Secretariat under governor in Peshawar. Governor is the authority to appoint all political agents and other bureaucrats in FATA and FRs.

My blood is boiling that how a non Pashtun and a non Pashto speaker was appointed as governor of KP to deal with the important tribal affairs. Tribal areas are 100% Pashtun and many elders cannot speak Urdu or Hindko, the language of the governor. I do not know why there is not a big storm today in Peshawar against this appointment. I do not know why Pashtuns are so much spineless to accept such people to govern them.

My request through forums must be conveyed to Nawaz sharif to revise this decision and appoint a Pashtun to be the governor of KP. This man is opposed by Pashtuns, by military and he is an old defeated man in politics. He may be loyal to his party but he is not at all suitable for the vibrant post of the governor of KP.

I knew the previous governor personally, a great Pashtun from Bajaur. I do not know why he was removed.

But the cold blooded Pashtuns even tolerated this Abbasi , non Pashtun , as chief minister of KP in past so I do not think he will be effectively opposed by Pashtuns this time.

Nawaz punjabi always humiliate pakhtuns one way or another. He destroyed gadoon industrial area. He insist on kalabagh. He became hindrance in renaming of NWFP. As governor of punjab he blocked the selling of wheat to KPK on several occassion. His minister blamed pakhtuns for electricity theft and now this. As mentioned by Badlun, FATA is under governor yet nawaz ganja chose non-pakhtun to create awkward situation for tribal elders who have to speak in "gulabi" urdu in the meetings

                1. Nawaz Sharif is a shrewd businessman. He understands full well that the disintegration of Pakistan is a possible scenario. Now even if we say it is highly unlikely it is still not impossible, so as such he will plan for different scenarios.

                2. Sharif is not an ideologue or militarist of any sort but a capitalist. If things really get tough and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pashtuns were to start a liberation campaign someone like Sharif would not harm himself personally in anyway just to keep them i.e. if it involves Pakistani army bombing Pashtun areas to pieces whilst he is safe that is fine, but if it involved street to street fighting in Islamabad, Rawalpindi or Lahore he would quickly try to ensure an end to all fighting, and letting "troublesome" Pashtuns separate.

Punjabis are not as martial as they claim to be.

                3. At the end of the day however it is up to the supposed "ghairatmand" Pakhtuns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to end all this. However a lot of them seem to be very naive and easy to manipulate.

                - In Swat many adore Pakistan (Punjabistan)
                - In Kohat, Mardan they join the army in big numbers
                - In Pekhawar there are a lot of "Pathans", as well as Pashtun nationalists
                - In Quetta they view themselves as different to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and not bothered about things such as the Hazara separatist threat.

                4. Ironically freedom for the Pashtuns may come from Balochis and not the brainwashed Pakistani Pashtuns themselves.

                It's simple:

Balochistan breaks away = Sindhis copying their struggle the next day = Punjabis not having the stomach to fight a war against more populous Sindhis (with a Balochi state supporting them) = Sindhi independence = only Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab left = failed landlocked state that Pashtuns will separate from.

                It is a chain reaction.

Supposedly he is punjabi too which makes it even worse. I'm sure the new minister well enforce urdu on the inhabitants one way or the other since he would have choice to speak urdu with Pashtuns. But hey thats what you get when your part of pakistan.

With that said, KPK will slowly become punjabized as we speak.

                    1. Pashtun nationalism is stronger in Pakistan now than it was around 10 years ago.

Because of the war, all the damage and suffering Pashtuns in Pakistan are questioning the long-term viability of the Pakistani state and if they need to prepare for something else.

                    2. If Pakistan ends the TTP violence and resumes its pre-TTP situation then the Punjabization of Pashtuns will continue as it was before and will accelerate with Pakistani Pashtuns becoming complete "Pathans". At that rate in a few decades Pakistani Pashtuns and Afghan Pashtuns would be totally different people, as Farsi speakers in Iranian Khorasan or Farsiwan in Herat are.

                    3. However even if they end TTP violence, the Baloch will probably not give up.

The Baloch believe in their version of "NANG" (honour) and "badal" (revenge) which they call "mayar" or and many are more honour-obsessed than even Pashtuns. If the Baloch ever defeat the Pakistani army (remember around 2 years ago the then Pakistani prime minister even spoke about organizing a referendum on independence for Balochistan) then the following day the Sindhis will seeing the success of the Baloch pick up arms and copy them.

Punjabis cannot take on 30 million Sindhis who buoyed by the success of the Balochi independence struggle would take on the Punjabis.

All the Sindhis have to do is to cut off the supply route from Karachi to Lahore and Punjab is finished. Simple as that.

Anyway that's quite a way off.

For now Punjabis are totally dominating Pashtuns by killing them, making them refugees and then not allowing them refuge in their (Punjab) province, imposing their governors on them, weakening the status of Pashto in the province and speaking of carving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa up.

I agree on one point that pashtun should not mix iranian/parso and urdu words into pashtu.

He was The CM of pashtunkhwa and ANP was an allience with pm-n in the 90s.
ANP shared the govt with pml-n and its members were part of the Abbasi govt.

As far as his CMship is concerned in 1997, I must say that PMLN got plenty of votes in Pakhtunkhwa to form a govt, even after ANP quit the coalition government they(PML) had enough majority to continue their rule in the province. A CM is selected by the public indirectly coz their elected people vote to choose him in the assembly and in that case the people of Pakhtunkhwa i.e Pakhtuns had voted for PMLN so you can't blame ANP alone.

As far as the selection of Governor is concerned it is a very bad decision on the part of Nawaz whereby he showed his hatred and enemty towards Pashtuns He had a lot of Pashtun companions in his party like Iqbal Jhagra who is serving him since long but he choosed a Hindkey instead to govern the most pashto speaking areas i.e FATA and PATA
