  • Bravo Afghan on largely peaceful election

I am very happy that Afghans had largely peaceful elections in which a lot of women participated. That may mean Taleban is a spent force.

Relief in Afghanistan after largely peaceful landmark election

(Reuters) - Afghanistan's presidential election closed on Saturday amid relief that attacks by Taliban fighters were fewer than feared for a vote that will bring the first-ever democratic transfer of power in a country plagued by conflict for decades.

It will take six weeks for results to come in from across Afghanistan's rugged terrain and a final result to be declared in the race to succeed President Hamid Karzai.

This could be the beginning of a potentially dangerous period for Afghanistan at a time when the war-ravaged country desperately needs a leader to stem rising violence as foreign troops prepare to leave.......

Afghans flock to vote for new president despite threat of Taliban violence

Kabul (CNN) -- Afghan voters turned out in large numbers Saturday for historic presidential and provincial elections, undeterred by the threat of violence by the Taliban and poor weather.
A heavy security presence in the capital, Kabul, and across the country ensured that the vote went largely smoothly, although some attacks were reported.
"Today, I came to here to select my next president and I hope that whoever it is... is a good person, who will help the people and bring changes to Afghanistan," said one voter at a Kabul polling station.

Wide participation in voting was observed and polling hours were extended by an hour to allow all those in line to vote, Mohammad Yousuf Nooristani, chief of Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission, said at a news conference...

      1. Well done to Afghans on holding these elections despite the attempts to destabilize them by some forces.

      2. Though personalities are important e.g. Dr Ahmadzai, Abdullah etc, it is not the be all and end all of everything. A country is more than just its leader and it is a question of creating strong institutions and democratic traditions, the framework, the parameters within which the head of government operates within.

      3. Aside from strong state institutions there is also the need for the emergence of powerful civic institutions. If Afghanistan keeps on this trajectory it will reach a level of HDI (human development index) that it is impossible to impose Talibanism on the people. This process is being carried out with:

      - More Afghans going to universities
      - Afghans developing the economy
      - Education to Afghan females increasing more and more.
      - A connection with the wider world e.g. internet, diaspora etc

      4. Well done on a peaceful transition of power from one elected civilian government to another, this is something that Pakistan in its 70 years of history only managed to achieve once ever and that was last year. Even Bangladesh's recent elections are controversial and may have to be repeated (once the Jamaat e Islami terrorist organization is banned). So Afghans have done well.

Some people are absolutely not happy about the elections. It's strange how the pakis and their afghan taliban friends have so much in common.

how dare our people act civil. why aren't we stoning each other like a bunch of animals..
who is a pakistani (in the sense that they are not afghans, hence no reason for them to be concerned with afghan politics) to decide who an afghan should or should not rebel against?? should we just continue to wait for pakistan to import more talibs and have the entire nation be raped in every way possible instead the way they have for the last three decades??
do they not have their own things to worry about??

and those two women are not even afghans. afghan women don't walk around in shrouds.

He is a typical ISI mullah, look at his facebook page, everything is about worshiping the great pakistani army. They and Zaid hamid type pakistanis consider Afghanistan as their own province. This is why they are so jealous that Afghanistan is truly becoming an independent country.

That said, typical army worshipers like him come from certain groups from Punjab, usually they have many relatives in the army, he doesn't represent all punjabis and defiantly not all pakistanis

from what i remember, back in the days, they would make people who were unable to sign their names do thumbprints. (not index finger prints) furthermore, women who are able and independent enough to care for voting should be able to sign their names. thumb printings are for the illiterates.

this idiot doesn't even know what an afghan woman looks like. someone needs to find him, chop his head off and then use it as a broom. that beard is an insult to islam.

This is why Pakistan won't prosper, or go forward. It will continue to be stuck in the stone age, if its people have mentalities like the above. Allah does not like munafiqs. It supported terrorism in Afghanistan, and now its own population is being fried by terrorism, and has the most terrorist attacks in the world.

                        Best,

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Please send out a dua/prayer for our Afghan security forces who stopped over 690 attacks during elections day and protected Afghanistan from Porkistani ISI inference and made the election possible.

164 militants were killed and 82 others were injured during the attacks while Afghan army soldiers seized various types of weapons belonging to the assailant militants.

At least 7 Afghan national army soldiers were martyred and 45 others were injured during these attacks

I've started to dislike pakis even more thanks to mr. umar's comment. I think pakis should really stay out of afghan politics, they're country is going to collapse very soon and pashtuns and baloch's will be responsible for it.
