  • Talking to the Taliban?

‘Talking to the Taliban’ is a prevalent argument both in Afghanistan and Pakistan these days. In Pakistan, people like Sirajul Haq (Jumat-e-Islami), Imran Khan (PTI), Fazl-e-Rahman (JUI) and Hameed Gul etc. are stressing that when the Afghan Government and the US can talk to the Taliban in Afghanistan why can’t we talk to the Taliban in Pakistan? Imran Khan would even offer himself as a mediator between the Pakistani Government and the Taliban. This raises some important questions:

    1. Why the above 'leaders' and parties always have a soft corner for the Taliban? And, what are their intentions behind supporting a talk with the Taliban?
    2. Should the Afghan Govt. talk with the Taliban?
    3. Should Pakistan talk with the Taliban too?

You do realize that an eventual Taliban victory would re-establish Pakistani hegemony in Afghanistan, right? The way things are, the Americans will leave with a weak Karzai at the helm of affairs just like the Soviets left with Najibullah. Karzai would ultimately have to share power with the Hekmatyaar-backed Taliban or else he would face the same fate as his predecessor.

In the end, the real losers will be us Pashtuns. The Durrand Line will become a non-issue, our culture and national aspirations will be suppressed on both sides of the divide, Pashtuns will be employed by outsiders to carry out the global Jihad, the hope to rebuild Afghanistan (socially as well as physically) would be lost for another decade at least, those lost in the Pashtun diaspora will continue to linger and the intelligentsia would stay far away.

No matter how much I oppose the United State's unipolar-era escapades, I can't bring myself to approve of the return of the Taliban. A foreign occupier is better than a Mullah - especially a Mullah whose stomach is bloated with Pakistani candy.

The day the ISI pulls the plug and stops supporting these terror groups whose purpose is "strategic depth" and to kill Pashtun nationalism, we will see that the Western powers will negotiate and declare 'victory' because their people want their troops back home. Eventually, a nationalist government can come into power in Afghanistan and oust any foreigners left behind in any permanent base. Make no mistake, the Quetta Shura is the old Taliban leadership and anyone who wants them back does not love his Pashtun people.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

The whole drama you are picturing here is based on the false notion that Taliban are subservient to Pakistan. This is a lie you fascists and traitors, apostates and infidels are propagating.

You're right, the Taliban are not subservient to Pakistan. They are, in fact, an extension of the Pakistan state. Pakistan, as its state policy, has been using terrorists since 1978. Thank you for correcting me.

Dialogue is the best option. But there are some ifs.

As Dawezai sahib, you said that rightests are supporting. Do you remember when Nawaz sharif said at Kabul airport in 1992, that after defeating kabul, the falg of islam will be waving soon at Laal Qalaa dehli. It really shows the hidden intentions. If USA will go out, but it will never go out without saving its interests. The main issue USA is facing is, if it will be able to say to the public, that they are safe now after this long war?
this can be solved only having gurantee from Pakistan that Taliban will have share with Karzai in Government, however the present constitution will be respectedand some necessary changes can be made. If Pkaistan guarantee such thing, then USA will go out satisfied, becasue in case of failure they will have an easytarget in case of Pakistan.
What to do with Pakistani Taliban? Dialgoue is ok, but if they have the mandate for dialogue, both Pkaistani govenrment and taliban as well.

But the most catastrophic situation will be if Pakistan help taliban entering into Kbaul as conquerers, which will push afghanistan into another dark era.

As far as the things are concerned che taliban la kuffaro sara khabaray na kawee, are just bakwas. They are doing it and both have no other option.

Ya these are the things why all democratic people are opposing Taliban. They are violent, bringing bad name to the Holly religion. They are brutal and they ignorant. they dont know where about of the modern world.

Chopping into pieces, parading people through villages are the jobs of them. But no civilized person can support such acts. they should think about their behaviour and can live with opposing viewed Afghan wit peace as well.

I think we should talk to Taliban because they are our ery own Pashtuns.

Why should we kill our own people?
